I have a 2008 rav4 with a blown 2.4 2AZ-FE motor. I have found a motor from a 2009 matrix that is also a 2.4. Are these motors compatible? If not why not? Toyota says that it won’t work.

This is a UK forum. The 2.4L version of the RAV4 never came here so there won't be that much relevant expertise about.

Wikipedia tells me that the version of the 2AZ-FE in the RAV4 produced 177hp while that in the Corolla (aka Matrix) produced 158hp so, assuming that is correct, they are not identical engines so it's not a simple like-for-like swap.
