Gear Lever on Yaris Mk3 2020 Y20

On the gear lever surround, additional to P,D and R etc  there is a section marked "B"

What is this for, as I cannot find a mention of this in the handbook  ?

For descending steep hills, etc.

Does that also apply to ascending steep hills as well ?

B is the Braking, Engine braking that is, to control your speed going down hill or where you need more braking control
