toyota technical service bulletin CP-0008T-0311

Has anyone got a copy of this Technical Service Bulletin, CP-0008T-0311, I’ve seen it mentioned in a few topics, but can’t seem to find it anywhere.

My wife’s 2010 Toyota Yaris TR 1.33 has had stiff gear changes since it was new in 2010, mainly 1st & 2nd. It’s well out of warranty so I don’t want to take it to our local Toyota dealer, with the expense that would be involved.

i have greased the nylon gear change mechanism and oiled the two cables attached and my wife tells me this has helped. I’ve done this a couple of times.

I would like to read the technical bulletin, as I think it describes how to adjust the cables.

Thanks flash22, I had seen that post, but it’s not very clear how to make the adjustments and by how much. I’ll post a screenshot of the info I’m after to recalibrate the cables, I think was under the same topic.

Pry up the white plastic locking tab and slide back, move the rod out for more travel or in for less until you get it right the amount will differ due to age, wear and tear i will see if i have any info as i can't find the TSB

Many thanks for that information, my wife assures me it’s a lot smoother going into 1st & 2nd gear since I lubricated the mechanism and cables.

l’ll keep this information in mind when the issue returns, as I’m sure it will.

  • 8 months later...

I’m just asking the same question again, does anyone have a a copy or details of the Technical Service Bulletin CP-0008T-0311.

I have been driving my wife’s 2010 Toyota Yaris TR 1.33vvti, recently and encountered the problem with 1st and 2nd gear. I tried the adjustment from the

IQ, with little success. Did an internet search and the TSB CP-0008T-0311 keeps getting mentioned, but I cannot find any details.

If it helps, I had that done by my dealer and they only charged me for half a labour unit (half an hour), so it's not super expensive to get them to do it. The TSB should be on toyota-tech.eu somewhere I would think...

I know it's just them adjusting the gear selector cables, but not sure of the details...

Thanks for the reply Cyker, I did have a look at the Toyota-Tech.eu site but access to the TSB’s has to be purchased. As the bulletin had been mentioned in a few forum questions I thought I would ask again.

May just take the car back to a Toyota dealer. Was it a good improvement when done?

It was a lot better - Before, I sometimes had to pull the Reverse collar up just to be able to move the gear lever over enough to get it into first, but after the adjustment, everything just clicked in the way I expected it to.

That said I didn't have the car for much longer after that as the AC system broke and I decided to scrap the car and get a Mk4 because it was clearly had some sort of voodoo curse on it or something (I've never known a Toyota Yaris to be so unreliable!!)

The irony is if I'd kept it a few months more I probably could have gotten most of the problems fixed under the Relax warranty... but I really hated that car by the time I got rid of it!

No worries - Hope you get it sorted.

I took too long to figure it out (I initially thought it was the gearbox needing a fluid change, but that actually made it worse!) and ended up shearing off a selector fork and had to get a new gearbox as I couldn't find anyone to repair it for a reasonable fee :crybaby:

At least the fix worked on the new gearbox so I didn't break that one too!!

  • Sorted.🥳 🤞

After talking to a local garage/workshop who specialises in Toyota, they had never recalibrated the gear selector cable on a manual geared Yaris, only a Multi, which I think is an automatic. They suggested contacting a main Toyota dealer, I contacted 2 dealers, by email, asking for a price for the recalibration and mentioned the TSB. I am still waiting a reply 3 days later.

I decided to have another look at it myself, so armed with the info posted by flash22 regarding the IQ linkage (thanks) and a determination to SORT IT OUT, thanks to Cyker for confirming recalibrating make a difference for the better, off I went.

First of all I removed the Battery and Battery mounting bracket, just to see exactly how the gear levers worked. Both levers were moving easily and freely, so I was sure the problem was at the gear stick end. I did notice a bit of play on connections on the end of the cables.

I when removed the central consul cover to see what was happening at the gear stick end. I tried recalibrating using the IQ instructions but still found the movement into 1st & 2nd gear hit and miss, particularly 2nd. After a bit of head scratching I discovered that there was an approximately 1mm gap between the Slider shaft and the Cam wall when the car was in 1st or 2nd gear, meaning that when the Slider shaft was in contact with the Cam Wall the gear could not engage correctly. I hope this makes sense.

I then started to recalibrate again using the IQ instructions, but this time put a 1mm feeler gauge between the Slider shaft and the Cam Wall before locking the adjuster case. Eureka!!  1st and 2nd gear are now engaging first time, every time with the Slider Shaft tight against the Cam Wall. I assume I’ve taken out the play/backlash out of the cable & connections by setting up using the 1mm feeler gauge 🤷‍♂️.

Hope this is useful for anyone encountering the same problem.

Awesome, glad you were able to fix it!!

That's really good to know as I had assumed the adjustment had to be made at the gearbox end!

Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and do it yourself, main stealers and older car don't mix, most of the parts fitters were spotty teens when that car was new

Funnily enough, we have had this Yaris since new in 2010, we had planned to let the Toyota dealer do all the services when they were due. But that came to an abrupt end when they suggested the window wipers and a couple of the tyres needed renewed on the third service. 😡I had checked them beforehand and knew they were perfectly okay. Part changers at our expense. DIY since then, we are thinking of changing the Yaris, but wanted the gear selection issue sorted before changing.
