4zz>1zz swap

Good morning guys,

So I've had my first Dyno run and the figures weren't satisfactory at all.

Everything on vehicle still 4zz only the 1zz engine been fitted with cold air and 2 box system exhaust 50-57mm.

Figures were 68kw122nm.

Budget build so just looking to get power close to the OEM 1zz spec .

Any help/suggestions please

Change the ecu to a 1zz,only problem is ecu pins might differ if it's a celica ecu, injectors might be different size also

Thanks , I wanted to use this as a last resort, UniQ chip gets you around 100kw after tune which is about what the 1zz pushes out standard, changing ECU to 1zz means coding a key to link up to ECU which costs a bit more than going the chip route. I found a 1zz exhaust manifold so I'm planning on bolting that on soon, the runners are larger than that of the 4zz so I'm thinking better exhaust flow

If it's cheaper and easier I'd go with that, also look at the intake manifold this could also be a restriction on the engine I'm not sure the sizes of 1zz vs 4zz,I think you might need to also change the gearbox to make the most out of the engine when you get it tuned,

Intake manifold is a bit tricky from what I've been told by the mechanic, can either lose or gain, money I'm not willing to gamble with. I'm also looking at getting either 1zz 5 SPD box or the 1zz 6 SPD, if I go 1zz 6 SPD I'm going to need to source a selector shaft as the gearboxes don't come with that(import).

Appreciate your input.

How's the car sounding btw?

You can't just chip an ecu not designed for the engine, the ecu is not setup for that engine it doesn't have the parameters

replace ecu, you will need techsteam or higher end scan tool to change the VIN, immobilizer shouldn't be an issue techstream should take care of it if not

The corolla come with the 1ZZ from the factory (ZZE122) i can look up some ecu part numbers if needed

where are you located ??

I'm in Cape Town,South Africa.

We have the 4zz,3zz,2zz & 1zz in the RunX and then 1zz in the Verso, our Corolla came in all those besides 2zz

I agree the ecu is holding the engine back, the intake sounds good has me a bit jealous as I wanted one like that but I have a air pump in the way and it's a tad bit to wet over here for it

81kw will be the factory power figure at the flywheel, not allowing for transmission loss or dyno calibration, heat or barometric pressure

many moons ago we had a mk3 escort RS turbo that dyno'd at 380-420 depending on the dyno it was on
