In my case, it's more driving in London traffic and on London roads is very punishing on tyres - The longest I've ever had a tyre last was something like 30-35k which IIRC were Continental Premium Contact 2Es, while ironically the shortest tyre life I've ever had was from Continental Premium Contact 5's (Only 7k!! :eek: ). The average is around the mid 20k's, and it's been fairly similar in both Mk1 D4Ds, the Mk2 1.33 and the Mk4, so it does seem it's more my driving style and driving environment more than the cars causing all the wear.

Even with my attempts to smooth out stop-start traffic, the constant braking and accelerating on garbage road surfaces isn't good for tyre life!

I did find the Cooper CS2s quite long-lived and hard wearing but they were also lethal deathtraps so I'd rather run slightly shorter-lived tyres that don't start to understeer and aquaplane in the wet once they have worn down a bit!

Currently looking at new tyres, probably will either get Hankooks again or Goodyears depending on who I can find cheaper!!

I am with the stock 16s Continentals. Currently done 11.5k miles and the front set is already on 4mm. It seems they will last another 8-10k miles at best. My previous Civic had CrossClimate + which lasted over 50k miles - they could have done over 60k, but couldn't risk keeping them to their limit - safety first

Seeing Tony's GoodYears I will have a hard choice ahead(in 4 to 6 months) between CrossClimate 2 ( think one of the best choices for UK's weather) and the Efficient Grip Performance 2 for their long life

Shall we vote for one of those😀

That’s the dilemma now for me. But I will wait before beginning of December and will decide depending on weather forecast. CC or any all seasons tyres drag a bit more than summer tyres and they do cut a bit of efficiency, probably 2-4mpg. They sound louder on smooth asphalt but much quieter on rough roads which are the majority of the roads in uk and that’s why perhaps most reviews from uk people says they are quieter than oem summers. I am 50/50  between summers and all seasons.

Until now I have always had a set of summer tyres (April - September) and a set of winter tyres (October - March). With the new Corolla and following a recommendation from my local tyre specialist, I decided to change to all season tyres and opted for the CC2.
 

I have now driven them since January and I am very pleased. So pleased in fact that I will now sell the Continental tyres that came with the car. Even in this year’s hot summer, the CC2s have been excellent (I spent July and August in Germany where the average temperature was 30 degrees). Hopefully, the CC2s will cope equally well with the British winter weather 🤞

I believe both will last pretty much the same milage 

Both should be quieter compared to the Continentals 

CC2s are a bit more expensive vs the Efficient Grip Performance, but won't stop me going to work if another "Beast from wherever..." bring heavy snow

I've driven the old EGPs before and they didn't last well at all. They also had very soft sidewalls and felt a bit dangerous driving fast  - especially in Germany. Somehow the car couldn't settle over speed of 150km per hour with them. Hope the 2nd generation is much better

Second generation also soft walls, although never felt unsafe, even opposite, they are very good in corners or at high speeds. I switch from 17” to 16” and can’t find any difference in car stability at all. 150km/h never drive though

I ordered the all season Goodyear vector 4 season gen 3. Last month the offer £64 off was for Michelin but I missed on that. I do like Goodyear s though, been driving on them since 2016 on two different cars and they seemed very well balanced, comfortable and with long life. Never tried all season, so it will be a new thing to me. If I don’t like them will give them to my dad and buy something else, he has same size on his car and definitely won’t turn my offer down 👌

Well,  it’s a bit early to make any assumptions about the all season tyres I had but the first impressions are a bit of mixed bag. I had only traveled 250 miles in two days but  I made my mind about  how good are the Goodyear efficient grip performance 2, the tyres I had replaced. , these are the best touring summer tyres to date. 

Now back to the Goodyear vector 4 season gen 3, these are my first ever all season tyres fitted new to my car. I will compare them to my summer tyres both the same size 205/55 R16 91 V

Then GV4S 3 has much softer tread than the summer egp 2 however they have thicker and stiffer side walls, they even look bigger fitted on the same wheels and they feel a bit heavy while driving, little bit higher rolling resistance.
Steering wheel is much lighter, still precise and direct though.

Handling in dry very good, no difference can be noted while going in turns and roundabouts. 

Braking ( slowing down) feels a bit wired, it is not as consistent as before with the summer ones. In fact the car has lost a bit of its inertia, slow down quickly, kind of highe level regenerative braking on bev. 

Accelerating feels slower and perhaps of the slightly higher rolling resistance., I had some Shell 95 e10 which didn’t help too. 

Fuel consumption is exactly the same for now. 55mpg, I had drop of 5 mpg a week before the tyre change as a result of temperature dropped. 

Road noise, here its tricky - on rough asphalt they are quieter than Sumer ones with less noise coming into the cabin however on smooth asphalt they are very similar. 

Comfort - the all season tyres seats in the middle between summer and winter tyres, they give slightly wired feel because of that, and can be more comfortable than summer tyres in certain conditions but quickly become less  cushioned if you go over sharp cracks and bumps. I will play with tyre pressures and see if I can get the ideal numbers. 

Interesting fact - the all season tyres remain colder than the summer tyres after 1 hr drive, they were 32C front and 27C rear. , we’re summer one were 38C 32C respectively. 
 

No chance to test in heavy rain, snow and ice yet. Only done 250 miles on motorways, city roads and some country lanes. 

Will keep monitoring and share further experience. I can’t compare with Michelin cross climate or any other all season tyres. I can compare to my winter Nexen winguard sport 2 and they feel very similar but slightly harder over bumps.

As a Cross Climate fan boy, I have on order Goodyear 4 seasons Gen 3 tyres on order (for the 225 45 17 they are less than £75 each fitted at Costco). I have various dB apps on my phone.  I will compere the 'science apps' and my ears compared to the factory Falkens when they are installed. Only 2 Michelins available so not suitable for a full swap.

I believe these Goodyear maybe slightly quieter than Michelin cc 2, but I haven’t driven any Michelin cc of yet and can’t say for sure. GV4S are very good tyres indeed. Let us know what do you think after you have them. 👍

Just got some tread depth measurements of my girlfriend’s car. Tyres are Michelin Energy Green 205 60 16 oem on Hyundai ioniq electric, after only 9500 London miles they are fronts 4.5mm and rears 6mm. I don’t know if this  is good or bad. If I compare  to my tyres life this is 5 times worse. She also reported that she gets a lot of tyre slipping when driving off especially on wet. My answer was when the time for replacement comes best not to choose tyres with eco or green in their name. I know the car is 300kg heavier, perhaps that plays a role too. 🛞👍

Yeah that's closer to the sort of wear I get - Apparently London is just bad for tyres!!

Because we were talking about the tyres here we have the latest winter one tested. We may not need any of those in UK but it’s an English boy and he does a good job so enjoy watching it. 👌🛞👍

Hi,

when you switched from summer Michelin Green to All season CC did you noticed any significant reduction in comfort and harshness? How can you compare both summer vs all season Michelin’s?

It was a few years ago and it was original CC not CC2, but I think the more flexible sidewall made it a much nicer car all over, I don't think the extra 2-3% range justified the rock hard ride along with (in my view) less grip.

so the cc was softer than the summer green? 
I am finding exactly the other way around with Goodyear and I am hugely disappointed. I did not expected that and even the driving  comfort was my first priority that pushed me buy all season tyres. Doing my research now and I can see why is that and it seems it’s not only with Goodyear but Michelin too latest cc2 and vredestein, Hankook , pretty much all brands. I am monitoring and adjusting the pressures carefully with no avail and soon will post results. Just want to make sure it’s not something else like suspension, shocks etc that causes me this harshness and poor ride quality. Apart from that lovely tyres, yet to be tested on rain and eventually snow and ice if we get any this winter.

We have CC2 on the Yaris & I feel they are more comfortable than the factory Continentals.

I am also disappointed by what you say about the Goodyears as that is what I have being fitted this weekend.  CC2s were close on £100 more for a set of 4 and also out of stock at Costco.

I didn’t drive them long enough, perhaps only 500 miles as I haven’t work much lately but since day one I noticed that. Obviously the pressures were all over. I set them to the same as previously on my summer Goodyear and still I can sense been harder and I feel every single crack or small imperfections abrasions on the road. Going over sharper or deeper potholes and is like metal parts are breaking, loud bangs and I feel it straight onto my back. Exactly as over inflated tyres. The strange thing is that when you touch the tread is super soft, you can literally twist it with your fingers, it’s like on proper winter tyres, but the problem is the reinforcement on the side walls. They handle very well in turns , no difference to summer tyres except steering been much lighter . Everything it’s fine, only the harshness.
I will keep reducing the pressures to find my sweet spot. It’s not new to me this to happen, it did happened before with all different tyres I had and not only on this Toyota but all Toyotas I had, even the brand new Priuses. , sometimes in certain weather conditions like dry cold how it was the nights I tested my all seasons the car became very stiff. I set the pressures yesterday 33psi front and 32psi rear, sprayed some wd-40 silicone on all rubber bushes and testing it tonight. 👍
