Yaris independent servicing

I have a 19 plate Yaris Y20 and really am not happy with the service dept in my local main dealer in Cardiff. It just seems whatever i take my car or my wifes 'Rolla in for, it always has to go back 2,3,4 times for them to get the job right! I just dont have faith in the technicians the other side of the glass 😞

I have found a localish Independent specialist in Newport "Osaka Toyota and Lexus", their website looks good and they sound like they know what they are doing.

Obviously i dont want to take it there and then find that Toyota invent a problem when i have a warranty issue.

Has anyone here had any Independant / Warranty issues and on the off chance does anyone use Osaka in Newport as their usual Garage?

Thanks in advance...Have a great weekend :)

Unfortunately, you have to let them charge you £150 for an oil change, while they scratch your car, lose your GB plate and install the cabin filter upside down, to maintain the warranty.

Cynical moi?

If you have the car serviced by an independent and wish to maintain the new car warranty, you need to keep documented proof that the car has been correctly serviced and that equivalent standard of parts have been used. Any warranty work/recalls will need to be done by a Toyota dealer.

Yeah, Osakas website states..."Our goal is to bring you an affordable service without compromising on quality. Your vehicle is fitted with genuine Toyota/Lexus parts and Mobil Lubricants where applicable, ensuring your manufacturer warranty remains intact".

So im guessing get the service book stamped and keep receipts...can Mr T really argue too much?

Thats pretty much how i feel, i dont trust them to do the servicing...The 'Rolla went in 5 times for the window seal and it was me telling them what was wrong with it and the part that needed to be replaced...5 TIMES!!!!

Suppose it is the 'where applicable' that could be a sticking point.

Personally, i would use a Lexus dealer if you have one to guarantee the warranty will be honoured, as if you have one like ours you'll notice the difference even before stepping inside. As above, any warranty work thou will have to carried out by Toyota

To be fair, even my awful dealer I find to be adequate for servicing; They even replaced the pollen filter this year now that it's part of the service schedule! I always check their work due to the distrust that's built up over the years, and it's always been satisfactory aside from them never changing the key fob batteries (Now I just tell them to give me the battery)

However I wouldn't use them for diagnostics or anything outside servicing unless I had a problem with a specific TSB I could give them, as they have proven time and again to not be experienced mechanics, but more like fitters, and only know how to fire the parts cannon at unknown problems rather than properly diagnose them like e.g. Diagnose Dan and Alan Howett.

Ah, not isolated to the dealer I no longer use for "forgetting" that! In addition to other included service items. How did I know? I'm sad enough to have permanent marker written the date of renewal on the existing Battery.:laugh: They did, at least install the replacement pollen filter with the "up" arrow pointing skyward. How do I know, the old filter was marked too.:whistling1:

As already posted, it is not a requirement to use an authorised Toyota dealer for servicing to maintain warranty. However, it might be prudent to do so as a means of not honouring a warranty claim. Or even some goodwill outside the warranty period.

With the introduction of Relax which is a service generated extended warranty giving up to 10 years of cover, not sure whether Toyota will be as generous as they have been previously as regards goodwill.

Smoke and mirrors? I've not even looked at or considered their "Relax" but I'm sure there will be many get out clauses and wear and tear excuses to avoid honouring it. I am, of course, speculating having never looked into it!

When I enquired of them about their previous extended warranty they would not confirm the inclusion of a CVT in that. Purposely left out of the what's included or not included? Manual gearbox only in the included list.

There are many get-out clauses, believe me!

Well a warranty is supposed to be against any defects in parts from the factory that would otherwise last the life of the car, so a lot of stuff that is expected to wear out and require replacement will be excluded...

It's not like e.g. the Gold maintenance contract Volvo have for trucks, which is all-inclusive for any problems.

I put in a claim ( twice for same issue ) for wear on my steering wheel leather on my C-HR. Car was just over 3 years old with a 5 year warranty. Have a guess whether they changed it?

If it was worn due to a defect in the material then it could be argued it needs to be replaced under warranty, but I'm guessing you've had the same problem a lot of people had during the pandemic, which is that alcohol hand sanitiser destroys leather-type materials, and that wouldn't be covered...

Hard to prove it was defective material tbh. May look at getting it re-covered soon though.
Suppose my point was - Toyota will find a reason why they can’t cover a claim, rather than they will.

Yeah, the onus is on the owner sadly, but this is the way it is with everything of this ilk and not limited to Toyota. It's e.g. why I always tell people to not try and hide mods from their insurance company as if you give them any excuse to get out of it they will.

And at least it isn't Ford, who wouldn't issue a recall on things like EPBs suddenly releasing or engines accelerating on their own until so many people died the USA equivalent of the DVLA noticed and forced them to...

Hi Lads theirs a few independent dealers but not all out their that are no good with modern cars.

There electric skills are poor relyant on a general all makes diognostic tools.

I dread to think how many can cope with a Hybrid car an the electrical side with just general service items?.

Are you seriously asking for proof that manufacturers other than Toyota will try to wriggle out of warranty claims given an excuse? I'd have thought that was self-evident!
