Touring sport bad mpg?

Ac will affect mpg in hot summer days, now in the cold it won’t because the ac compressor will not need to work loaded and will not draw much energy from the hybrid Battery. When is colder than 4C° may not turn ON at all even though the green light illuminates. I usually keep mine off for the whole winter with very few occasional uses from time to time. Heating is important in winter , set at 20-22C° with or without ac ON and enjoy warmer cabin and standard driving experience. When your Battery is cold Battery the engine will be running more often to preserve the hybrid battery. Btw it’s my first winter on summer tyres and mpg loss is only around 5-6mpg where previous years been 10mpg. I can feel the car much more free rolling then when with winter or all season tyres. Unfortunately when the white stuff arrives next week I won’t be able to enjoy it as I love to do ❄️☃️

@TonyHSD what about defogging  ?
It is not yet bellow zero degrees Celsius where I live and if I run the ventilation system without AC ON the windows fog up quite quickly.

You don’t need AC to defog your windscreen.
People are obsessed with using ac to clear windscreen, but what about older times when cars had no AC?

All you need to clear the windows is more time and heat.
Set heater at 22C° , air intake from outside and blower fan speed 2 or above , air flow towards windows and feet, these are the best settings for winter use in any car in any country. As soon as the engine warms up and starts sending warm and dry air towards windscreen it will clear off all the misting and you will enjoy warm and dry interior with less moisture locked inside the hvac system, air ducts and body, less risk of fungi forming and bad smell.

My method is tested over the years on many different cars and works on each one no matter if automatic or manual hvac controls. Again, you need more time to clear the windows. Using AC will help you clean them faster and you may no need to wait a bit longer but it’s a two sided blade.
Everyone has their own preference., I have mine and it works for me better than recommended by the “specialists” settings using Air condition in winter. Anyone free to use or try as they like. 👍

It is faster tho'! :laugh:

AC on, blower set to windscreen, heating on max - Bang! and the condensation is gone! to paraphrase a certain cleaning product hawker...

Also if you want to use recirc you have to use the AC, I don't think there is a car in existence that won't fog up in recirc mode in cold weather!

It's one nice thing in the Mk4, as switching to fresh air will probably give me extra lung cancer from all the diesel busses I'm normally around, so being able to use recirc and AC on with minimal mpg hit is soooo nice.
