Engine struggle to start when hot

Hi all just wondering if i zm on the right path to fix. My fifi struggle to start when hot. It takes a few attempts..it rotates it clicks but no start. This has happened a few times. I looked in haynes manual and it could be the air filter. Can anyone advise

If it's a Corolla 2.0L diesel, it's most likely the starter motor - It's a fairly common issue with the 1CD-TV engine. You either need to find someone who knows how to refurb it with the updated bits, or get a revised one from Toyota.

Otherwise, what have you checked? Most common culprit in general is the 12v Battery is on its way out.

Just a quick upodate for those that are following this thread. i have replace the airfilter with a much better one from Bosch. engine starts lovely from hot and no issues. sounds a bit better aswell.
