Strange noise when braking- ABS?

Recommended Posts

Hi Yaris owners,

I bought a 2005 Yaris about 6 months ago, and I am loving it so far.

I have one small concern: it makes a strange noise when I brake and come to a stop (see linked video). It has been making this noise for a few months now. I took it to a garage and they thought it might be something to do with one of the bearings which was completely knackered. He installed a new bearing, but the noise is still there.

Any advice anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

Hi,

yes it’s from the abs module. You probably can feel some tiny vibrations on the brake pedal when the noise is happening. Could be an issue with speed sensor or the abs pump itself. Diagnostic is the next step to check for any fault codes.

That is a bit weird sounding; It's very much like the ABS triggering sound but it doesn't sound quite right. May just be some resonance or something rattling because of it tho'.

What Tony suggests is a good place to start as it's very likely something to do with the ABS system.

I'm wondering if it's suspension creaking. Try pushing down on each corner of the car to see if you can replicate the sound.
