I have a 2013 Auris hybrid. In Norway a Toyota mechanic told me it would cost 2.5 - 3k euros to change the hybrid Battery. I have read about people saying its possible to buy them for around 1k so if this is true I assume its possible to buy the batteries for less other places?

Hi,

there are adverts for cheaper options from independent “technicians “ or car repair garages however I won’t recommend anything like that. The reason is either completely new Battery from official dealer or replace Battery cells as diy project. If you let the car been worked on by someone unofficial trader and he replaced only one or few cells on 10 years old car very soon another set of cells may fail and you gonna get your into a constant trouble. Plus if anything goes wrong the technician may put it onto the car as been old and Battery weak, which might not be the exact case and could be poor workmanship. If you know what you are do and can do it yourself yes, if not just buy from dealer and let them fitted in to have a full warranty. Yes it will cost around £3000

It cost exactly at 2350€ for me in Frankfurt if I need one.  Fortunately, most hybrid Battery last at least 15 years in Western europe with mild weather.  Don't ever buy used or re-conditioned Battery because they are all very old from canibalized parts.  There is no point to buy used Battery unless we just want to sell it but it is not a good alternative for most people.  I did bought reconditioned battery once in 2017 for $800 installed with 1 year warranty.  I can feel significant less torque and EV range from this kind of batteries although there is no check engine lights nor triangle symbol.  But it is not worthy to spent $1000 for such garbage. Even with lifetime warranty, the performance is just so bad and I sold the car within months after $800 garbage battery replacement.
