Car insurance renewal shocker 😲

LV is currently the Which? top recommended provider for car insurance - extract from Which? below:

"LV was best rated by claimants in our survey, scoring 79%, and its policy was the highest scoring (77%) when compared against other car insurance providers' standard policies. It's one of a minority of providers guaranteeing repairs for a vehicle's lifetime, and one of just 11 offering the policyholder a temporary replacement car if theirs is stolen.

It also stands out by offering protection for no-claims bonuses against an unlimited number of claims.

Customers in our survey gave LV praise for its ability to deal with queries and offer value for money. Some 35% of LV claimants in our survey felt they were getting a cheaper price with it than what was on offer from other insurers - a sentiment shared by 26% of claimants overall."

Renewed my 21 reg. Corsa SE Premium insurance in January. Got the new Yaris Cross Icon on Saturday. Contacted Insurance and it cost an extra £112 which included a £22 "Administration Fee."

Hi.

Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you haven't done so already.

Regards,

Dan.

Dan I meant to but was not sure from your website if you covered regular risk rather than specialist for older cars.

Who with?  My Corolla was insured in May, new Yaris Cross in September no premium change and only £30 Admin from my broker for LV.

One Call Insurance. I always shop around at renewal time. (I show them the same loyalty as they show me!)

Well, here is my update: On checking back, Saga actually quoted £1300. Now waiting for a reply from Adrian Flux.

In the meantime tried LV as recommended. Filled out all details "truthfully" inc. 13 years no claims - wife and myself. Driving since the 60's. Low and behold on completion, reply came - We do not insure this type of car.

Car is 2014 second owner Auris excel.

Further quote from Admiral £1430.

Back to my trusty Honda jazz perhaps. Sadly.

That's a bit steep Herb, sounds like there may be a mistake on your details ?

I had no problem insuring a 60 plate Auris hybrid. We had it 5 years, first I was main driver, then my wife became main driver. Fully comp, no claims for years and years. And that was with LV. Been with them about 8-9 years now, not always the cheapest in a internet search comparison, but those that beat them were “unknown” to us and the most was only by £20 max so never changed. Last July on renewal I got the internet quote from them, rang them up and asked can you do it cheaper and immediately got £40 off for the same terms.

What I don't understand is the statement from LV. "We don't insure this type of vehicle"

My driving experience at 82 years including motorcycles has been excellent. The couple of accidents in that time have been caused by other drivers so it remains a mystery.

The Uswitch report provided link however does suggest my age may be the reason, but better if LV made that clear. They have the right to exclude older drivers if they wish

They don't insure a hybrid Auris?? :confused1:

Still, MoreThan wouldn't insure my Yaris with the steel rims so the industry has form for unintelligible decisions...

I was talking to a lady a week ago, I asked her does she still have her Honda Jazz. “No” she said. About 5 years ago she went to renew her insurance, she didn’t say who with, but had been with them a good few years, and the annual amount had shot up excessively, so much she chose not to reinsure but to stop driving. She was 81 when that happened . Now 86 and bright as a button, but dumped at 81. Sound familiar Herbie? 5 more years and that is what is likely to happen to me. Not looking forward to that. 😒

Substitute 'January' for 'May, 'April' for 'September' and 'Euro25' for £30' and you have me. My insurance is with Aviva (Ireland). I know I was replacing a 12 month old car with a brand new one, but from what I can find out, the Yaris Cross is in a lower insurance group than the Corolla. Oh well, another reason to shop around next December. 😁

All insurers have profiles of customers they Insure and they don't insure. So a variety of factors (age, postcode, occupation, retired, car, etc, etc) may mean that your profile doesn't fit with the customers they will insure.

Don't think discriminating against Auris owners is covered in legislation ....

Could be a parts issue, as if you have a bump and they can't get the parts to fix, what happens ?

Whatever the outcome it will cost the insurance company big time 🙂

Decided to go with LV, but seems to be a problem paying on their online system, asking me to call them, technology doesn't always work 🙂
