New UK Supra differences? (2020 onwards)

I fell in love with the Toyota Supra when I was a kid and, though I appreciate it's a very different car now, want to fulfil that childhood dream of owning one now.

I'm looking for a used Supra 3.0 Automatic from 2020 onwards and have been trying to find the differences in the 3.0 automatics since 2020. From much Googling I can see that the power was increased in the 2021 model quite significantly but have just realised that the change didn't make it to the UK due to emissions, etc. This made me wonder where I can find specific changes that have been made to UK models. For example, Google again tells me that there were improvements including "aluminum braces that tie together the strut towers and core support" but I have no idea if this is US only or not.

I called a local dealership and was told that there have been no changes whatsoever since the 2020 UK model. Is this accurate information? If that's the case then I may as well shop around for a low mileage 2020 model.

As you can see, this place is a total desolate wasteland for supra owners. Not worth wasting your time here. Best thing is to head over to Facebook and find the MKV UK, Europe and GR UK clubs, and their websites and other social media. Loads of Info there, and loads of UK owners who can tell you the ins and outs of the MKV. (I don't want to risk trying to post competitor links here as we know how sites like this get upset.) 

Whilst I've seen and interacted with a lot of MK5 Supra's, (I own the older generation car), best you speak to MKV owners to really be sure about its fine spec's.

Remember, most dealer's themselves literally know next to nothing about ANY toyota. 99% aren't car people, just sales people who read brochures, and parrot it back.

MKV wise, All i can tell you is the there is some minor option changes(carplay? trim colours?), and of course the newer manual option, otherwise the same car. They come with awful, short warranties, so when buying used its pointless to chase after that, devaluation isn't too bad against competitors, and a lot get modified, so know your mod stuff when you go looking to find the hidden history. Dealership also make a huge difference. Like I mentioned above, most dealers are total a-holes, voiding warranties fast, and flashing/resetting tunes out of customers cars for fun. But there are a few which are very supportive in every way, covering warranties even with mods, Once you find a few MKV owners in your region they should be able to steer you to a supportive one. 

Lastly Toyota UK is also an absolute joke of a company. I've interacted with them a lot. They are literally anti-social, deliberately unco-operative, unfriendly past sale, and super heavy on rampant profiteering. Steer clear of them and use dealers or others. Toyota UK are a running joke in the Auto world - you almost get the impression they hate cars.

Lastly avoid the clubs with MKIV owners in it (yes I know I'm one of them lol), most of them have a die hard hatred of the new supra, and all you will get from them is general hate and misinformation.

I'd given up hope of anyone replying here! Thanks for the very useful and informative response. The MKIV comment at the end made me smile but I totally see what you're saying (it's a bleedin' BMW, mutter, mumble). I'll head off to the places you've suggested.

This is true, and can be painful to experience. But then again, 99% of customers are not car enthusiasts and just want to know about colours and features. Toyota should really have mandated for dealerships to have a specialist rep for the GR lineup.

Toyota GB is sales and marketing. That's what they do. The technical people are mostly working for TMMUK. Ever tried interacting with BMW UK? 😉

There are loads of aftermarket braces that you can retrofit to all A90s. These are generally stronger than the OEM and many owners upgrade to these. (I'd have though all A90s come with braces as std. Heck, even my 5-series barge has aluminium braces :))

Personally, I don't think there are any major difference between the earlier and later cars. Anyway, hope you find a nice exemplar.
