Corolla GTI AE92 Engine issues

Hello guys,

I’ve recently been putting work into getting an AE92 GTi corolla back to its former glory but owner insists it’s not the same car he bought 10 years ago. Even though the engine sounds very healthy since taking it for a spin myself I see where he’s coming from. Where should I start looking what are the possible issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
