2002 Avensis saloon - rear seat won't fold down

Hi all.

The single rear seat of my 2002 Avensis saloon won't fold down.  When I push the button in on top of the seat back, nothing happens.  The  catch doesn't release and the seat back won't move.

I'm assuming there's some cable or rod in there designed to release the catch but how do I get to it?

Any suggestions or link to the solution would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

why you need it to fold down for ?

To be able to carry things like long, wide sheets of wood, stepladders etc.

These things won't fit in the aperture created by only being able to fold down two-thirds of the rear seat.

The locking mech is under a trim (top left)

Thanks for the suggestions.  Problem solved ~ and I am so embarrassed.

I didn't realise that there is a lock slider on the back of the seat. 🙄  (For security, the seats can be locked so that the boot can't be accessed if someone broke into the car.)

I have been shifting loads of stuff recently and something must have caught on the switch and locked the seat.

If nothing else, hopefully this experience will help someone else!
