2021/2022 Corolla Hidden Features

Hi there,

Just bought my first Toyota - a 71 plate (2022) Toyota Corolla 2.0 Hybrid Excel.

There were a couple of things I noticed after purchasing that I tried to find in the setting but I couldn't :

1. When the car starts to drive the doors do not automatically lock

2. When unlocking the car the headlights do not turn on

I took my car to the main dealer to see if these could be unlocked. But they said they are not available to be unlocked, however looking at devices such as Carista and Carly it looks like it is an option. Just wondered if anyone has used devices like this to unlock some hidden features.

Also - if I did use something like Carista or Carly, does anyone know conclusively if this will invalidate the 10 year/100,000 warranty?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

1) Toyota discontinued the automatic locking feature on their recent models and it is not available to be activated in any settings, even with Carista etc. I think it is possible to buy an aftermarket module to do it but it needs to be left plugged into the OBD port all the time in order to work.

2) I don't know about the headlight setting sorry.

If you lock the ddors manually from inside, all the doors are then locked.

IIRC, doors auto lock when hitting a certain speed, maybe 40mph?? I'm not 100% sure.

The Corollas seem to be missing a few features that other cars have:

1) No auto locking of doors when above a certain speed - would have been an easy programming fix

2) No headlights on unlocking - but probably because the 12V Battery is tiny and can't run headlights for 30/60 seconds every time you unlock the car.

3) headlights don't come on automatically when you are using the wipers in rain - another simple programming fix they have missed

All features my previous 2016 Peugeot 308 T9 had as standard.

The headlights on unlocking only happened when it was also dark as it was linked to the automatic headlights sensor.

Features 1 & 3 my 2003 Peugeot 206 had both fitted as standard.

My C-HR has gained automatic locking / unlocking but that was part of a security system upgrade & the functions where easily programmed in.

My Corolla Cross has auto door lock which activates when you go over 20kph. Unlocks when stopped and put into Park.

Unlocking only unfolds the mirrors and flash the indicators. Locks up again after 30 seconds if no doors are opened.

The above three features have been on many cars for years but I think on hybrids the auto lights when unlocking is due to the small Battery.
