Does all Toyota AD service comes with a video?

A friend who owns a RAV4 goes to the same authorised Toyota dealership as me. He almost always gets a top of the range courtesy car, whilst I was told the Yaris is the best they can do. Ok, perhaps that’s because I own a Corolla.

However he also gets a short video when he goes in for a service, whilst I do not. I was told Toyota never does this. Is this true? I do not know any to mention my friend’s name as we both go to the same dealership.

I believe its intended to be the norm of a complimentary check, but have had varying experiences with the same dealer and other dealers, in/out of warranty with/without service plan. When my car was in for a repair, I was offered a loan car, at £10 per day, other dealers offer free if available. I got an Aygo X as a loan. I also have a corolla.

I think it's very much down to the dealer, and possibly who you deal with and maybe day of the week. Certainly customer service not consistent.

Yeah I suspect it’s because the number I gave dialled when booking for service is not the direct number to the dealership.

My friend has always been given the brand new BZ4X. However the main point is that we both go into the same dealership and he always gets a video after a service but I have never been offered that.

With our Toyota and Hyundai dealerships (different dealer groups) we always get a video. It isn't a video of the service, but a video of the visual safety check done before the actual service.

It depends on the dealer, the one I use now is quite good which is why I go back even though it’s a 50 mile round trip - I get videos of the service points.

loan cars are also reasonable, when I had an auris they gave me a Corolla. Which got me considering them as a replacement. One other dealer gave me an automatic aygo which was absolutely terrible - no space at all and a couple of seconds to change gears.

and when I was considering a rav4 they were able to arrange one of those. (Too thirsty, big and didn’t handle as well as Corolla so I went with that instead. Plus the extra horsepower on paper wasn’t really apparent in the real world.)

last time I had a yaris cross loan car, which I liked. It’s just sad that they have removed cheap to include features to make you upgrade to a higher model. Particularly bad was not having wireless Apple CarPlay and having to use a cable - virtually every car has wireless now as standard.

I do get a video but don't get a free courtesy car.

Although the dealer I use has free courtesy cars, you do have to pay for the insurance waiver normally £10-£20 otherwise you are liable for any damage when parked/etc.

I find it a bit infuriating when they send those videos that provide no evidence whatsoever of any actual mainteance work having been done. Thankfully, my local dealer don't do it, they just send a list of upsell recommendations.

If I could get a video showing the oil being drained and being replaced with the correct viscosity rather than a cheaper substite, that would be of interest to me. Oddly enough, I've yet to come across a dealer that offers anything like that. I often ponder on the true value of those much-coveted stamps in the history book.

On my Yaris hybrid, I’m almost certain one dealer didn’t actually change the oil at the service. It was a main dealer too.

the oil wasn’t that dirty, but should still have been changed as it was due.

after it was supposedly serviced it looked exactly the same colour. On every other car and service you can tell that the oil has been changed.

one other main dealer filled it with 5w30 instead of 0w20 so finding a good main dealer who actually knows what they are doing is good.

it’s a shame Toyota don’t mystery shop their own dealers to check that the servicing is up to standard.

Whether the oil is dirty or not shouldn't matter - As someone coming from a line of diesels, you'd never be able to tell since diesel oil goes black after a week!

It's the lubrication, film strength and acid inhibitors/neutralizers that are the reason oil is changed regularly. It's why it should be changed annually even if you only do a few thousand miles, as the moisture and heat cycles will still cause it to break down and be less effective over time.

I find in Toyota hybrids the oil stays quite clear for me, only getting dirty as you get within a couple of thousand miles of the service interval.

my travelling is mainly motorway though, so my petrol engine will be running more than average. I’m also travelling over 20k miles a year with many long trips of 100-200 miles a day.

Mine starts off the colour of blood plasma and turns to a sort of syrupy colour.

The one in my old diesels started off a very light syrup colour and went literally black

It was always funny in the early days when armchair mechanics would insist my oil was in urgent need of replacement based purely on that because they didn't know any better

Out of curiosity sportse, how much does the electric motor run when you're on the motorway?

I think it depends on speed, at a genuine 70mph which is an indicated 74mph it’s almost always on petrol.

but when you drop below that you can find it’s in EV mode sometimes even at 60-70mph.

I think there is a top speed for EV mode, but it should maybe be 10mph higher to allow for the inaccuracy in the speedometer.

for September, I’m only in EV mode for 26% of the mileage but still getting an average of 57mpg. Some trips were in poor weather which drops the mpg a bit from my normal long term average of 60mpg.

If you're asking how often the engine stops, it depends a lot on whether you use cruise or not. On cruise, the engine is almost always running. Even descending hills with the eco gauge firmly into the regen zone, it continues to run at idle speed. Of course, the motor is always either helping out or consuming in these cars, regardless of whether the engine is running or not at the same time.

I was just curious how fast you can go in the Corolla without the engine running - You can do about 80mph in theory in the Yaris Mk4, albeit not for long because the electric motor hasn't the torque to sustain that speed even briefly, but it can cruise just below 60mph on a flat road with just MG2 running pretty consistently.

One of the reasons I was interested in the Yaris Mk4 130 is because it has a much beefier MG2, which should let it run at higher speeds on electric only.

The Corolla already has a much beefier MG2, but I have no idea what it's capable of at motorway speeds. (And the dealers wouldn't let us test-drive one on the motorway, for 'insurance reasons' :g:)

I'm not actually in the market for a Corolla, but was just curious!

Similar to the speeds you're getting in the yaris, maybe a little higher. There are several near flat dual carriageway sections near me, possibly flat in places where gentle accelerator I can maintain indicated 70. I think the theoretical maximum is somewhere near 80 but that wouldn't be powered, it's more to do with MG1 max speed.

My OHs yaris premiere (130) behaves similarly though seems easier to get in EV than previous Mk4 and the corolla.
