Hi everyone so I've been thinking to change my falkens tyres It looks like they've been rotated, with 3 mm left rear ones , I am planning a trip during the Christmas break to Germany and it's mandatory to have all season tyres I just can't decide whether is worth the all season in UK , and I am planning as well a trip to Italy next summer ... my eyes are on Goodyear 225/45 R17 (W) 94 VECTOR 4 SEASON G3 XL , Costco offers at the moment which seems to me a good deal 309 for 4 tyres included the fitting, 🙏

I have Vector 4Seasons G3 on my Avensis & happy. If your car isn't an estate/TS you probably don't need the XL.

It's an estate, how about mpg is dropping drastically? Thanks 🙏

No but my Avensis will only get ~2/3 of your mpg so any drop would show up less

I've fitted all season tyres to a variety of cars over the past 15 years or so and not noticed a significant change in fuel consumption with any of them.

I’ve had Michelin cross climates on several cars, mpg only dropped 1-2mpg from them.

I can't make my mind about XL , different opinions on internet about them  ... 😡😭

It seems par for the course for many all season tyres to come with an XL load rating. In theory that can give a firmer ride but I would challenge most drivers to be able to tell the difference! Other characteristics of the tyre make far more difference in my experience.

Well I read something about that the drive is stiffer ( don't even know what that means 😁) and noiser and that's opposite what I want because I thought all season tyres will be quieter than the ones that I have, thanks.

As already written on this forum, I now have 17" CrossClimates - these are rated 94Y whereas they only need to be 91W.

Bought as they were far cheaper than the 91 W's, again from Costco.  I was cautious about the load (ie XL) rating increase - but I cant notice any difference.  Compared to the OE Falkens, they may be slightly less "pointy", that hardly matters on a Corolla.  But they are more compliant and quieter over small road bumps like cats eyes.  They sound different too - not noisier - just different.  Fuel consumption may be 1-2mpg poorer.  Hopefully they will be better on ice, slush and snow as I found my car to be poor (a handful) on the Falkens.

I have previously had a Fiesta with CrossClimates, and later with the Goodyear equivalents (as available at Costco at present but 15").  I couldnt pick one as better than other for grip or noise.  But the Michelin were nicer to drive on - a little less flabby.  The Michelin lasted over 30k miles, although latterly the tread blocks feathered and created an alarming road or bearing type noise (maybe as I ran them quite firm).

An additional point is that - at least on the 17" Michelins - the rim protector edge is less pronounced than on the Falken.

Go for it.

There is topic underway covering all season tyres in the RAV section. It has a link to a very good all season tyre review video. I currently run on Continental allseason tyres, had previous good experience with Goodyear Vectors too.

I made my mind about all season tyres I was  just concerned a bit about XL ( extra load ) because I read that they are not worth to put on car that Is not SUV and will make the drive noisier 🙏

Understood and wouldn’t bother with XL in your situation. They will have stiffer tyre walls which will not help with the ride quality.

I have Goodyear 225/45 R17 (W) 94 VECTOR 4 SEASON G3 XL on my Auris, done 10k already and had Michelin CrossClimate before that. Both are XL and they are quiter and more comfortable then the Dunlop Sport Maxx 91w that came with the car.  MPG did not drop much, but handling, especially in cold and wet improved dramatically.

A lot of all season tyres will be XL plus higher speed rated as it saves the tyre manufacturer on producing multiple different load / speed ratings of tyres in the same size.

A high load index & speed rated XL tyre will cover a lot of different vehicle fitment requirements for that particular tyre size.

As long as the replacement tyres meet or exceed the original factory fitted tyres for load index & speed rating you will be perfectly fine.
