Key / key battery problem.

My remote fob sometimes stops working, the little tabs that hold the key Battery inside the fob don't seem to hold the Battery securely enough.

If I open the fob up and push the Battery down then it starts working.

Any thoughts other than a new key?

Also any ideas on how much a key costs?

Keys can be from £30-60.  Keystation has OEM key that is over £400. Aliexpress and the other Chinese places do them as well for way less.

If the fob is working, then all you may need is a replacement shell which cost next to nothing.  You could try placing a small piece of foam or even a bit of folded card on top of the Battery, close up the Shell to see if that works.

are you using the correct cell as they come in different sizes

eg.

2032 - 20mm dia, 3.2mm thick

2016 - 20mm dia, 1.6mm thick

1620

1625

Battery is correct, I have tried some thin card cut to size of batter to see if that keeps it pushed

On my remote there are obviously 2 connections, + and -, the one I use as he 'spare' seemed to have issues from time to time however as you discovered pressing it down appeared to make better contact.  Looking a it more closely, it wasn't the pressing down (for a better contact) being the issue, but the side spring which had become less pliable and not making good contact with the Battery.

By bending it out a little, then reinserting the Battery made it as good as new again and now both my keys are equally reliable!

is it a branded cell, i have seen some lower-quality cells that are undersized

all the PCB/battery does is the central locking - the immobilizer chip is passive - unless you have the keyless entry and go (smart key - oblong, 2 button, no blade)
