but the gearbox is 3-4k, never mind the cost of the actual conversion

Yeah but lets face it who buys a brand new gearbox for a conversion like this?

If your gonna spend that kinda money you simply buy a proper manual.

Most people who have done this have got their boxes used for less than £1k

lol, true

I think Jim was reffering to the Aero top though?

I'm more than happy with the normal tin top, and there seems to plenty of manuals (J-Spec) on the market. :)

(not as many as the autos mind)

anyone serious about performance and handling will go fora hard top, they are FAR stiffer.... the aeros suffer from scuttleshake....

-this is why the aero tops have that annoying "bolt on" roof... -when on it becomes a structural part of the car

I've read up the J-spec has smaller injectors and turbo than the Uk-spec.

So is the J-spec 280bhp and the UK-spec 326bhp?

Indeed, there are a LOT of diffrences between the J-Spec and UK-Spec.

But basicly its 280bhp vs 326bhp

The UK spec car is essentially a GZ (Top of the range import) with Steel Turbos on a diffrent exhaust manifold. 550cc injectors vs the j-spec 440cc injectors. Every optional extra except for the Aerotop.

You could always buy an auto UK TT and an import manual. Swap the gearboxes and flog the import leaving you with manual uk spec car. I don't know the technicalities of the swap, but I assume it's possible. Judging by the insurance difference between uk and imports, it would pay for itself within a year or two.

If I went for a Supra I would definitely want a manual trans. Admittedly, I've never driven either and from by all accounts the auto is very good, but I would have to have a manual gearbox.

It's not worth all that effort.

If I had £20K to spare, maybe

Leeky's Idea is more cost effective though,

(buy a manual gearbox from the scrappy) :)

Don't ever say that :!Removed!:

:P

The Jap spec owners will start getting big ideas.

There is still so many items that the UK spec car has that the top of the range Jap cars never have:

Glass Headlights,

Diff Cooler,

Outside temp reading

heated seats

550cc Injectors

Bonnet Scoop

etc, etc

For a full list look HERE

Cheers Martin.

I wont be bothering converting a car though. :)

I'm waiting for the right one, to show up at the moment.

I'd like a UK manual, but if my budget wont Allow, I dont mind too much if it's a J-spec.

Beside's most of my "toys" will be going on it anyway; so it should creep past 330bhp

I know of a very nice UK 6 Speed Supra for sale. However the car has got a few miles on it (136k) and the current owner has owned it for 7 years.

If you are interested in the car PM me.
