Replacement Upgraded Ct Turbos

looking on american turbo upgrade places and for MR2s using standard manifiolds lots advertise upgraded CT26 turbos etc $500 or garrett T04e stage 3 hybrid's for stock manifold for $750 or a bit less than £400,.. so why does fensport want £700 + vat for a stage 2 CT26?

When my turbo needs replacing is there any reason not to phone a place in the US and get a T04e? as plus 17% vat and 20% import duty still looking at £550 the price of a stock replacement from fensport...

From what I can gather if its a UK based Co then the theory is I can have this to you in a few days but I am going to take your eyes out in the process, where as if the Co is located outside the UK then if you can wait and wait you get a bargain.

Why waste money upgrading the CT26?? IMO it's a waste of $, I reakon your better off to find a CT20b & then upgrade that if need be.

I found that fensport where the cheapest for me when i brought a blitz nur spec exhaust for my yaris t sport when i owned it. The only trouble was that if it's not in stock you will have to wait 6 long weeks for it to arrive :o

If you can wait and dont mind paying the shipping then you'll find plenty of cheaper jap/usa car tunners out there :thumbsup:

I was pricing up some parts from fensport and comparing them to a jap company and all in all I would of saved £700 (including shipping and tax)

some of the reasons its cheap is because;

1. of the exchange rate

2. there are many more turbo specialists in the USA therefore more price competition.

Reasons Fensport are expensive;

1. lack of Good turbo specialists in the UK (ie have to pay for quality as they contract the work out)

2. what they sell is tried and tested, as in it will work, (if you have problems they will do everything they can to sort it out)

3 they give advice on what would be best and give you options on what else you could do to improve the vehicle etc.

Plus they should be able to get the part to you a LOT quicker than american companys (unless they have to import from outside the country)

If your looking for an aftermarket turbo kit a good one is the Garrett GT28 kit from extreme boost in the states - or TB Developments in the UK. We have fitted one reciently to a customers car and he was running ~320bhp at the fly at 0.8 bar..... quite impressive as its a rev1. Spool up is nice and quick and it holds the power all the way up the revs.....

Again I am going to disagree with you here fella. I think that Hybrid Stage 2 CT26 from Turbo Force will be cheaper than Steve buying a CT20-b and going for a stage 2 on that. And it will be powerfull for what Steve wants to acheive. 1.2 bar of boost holding to redline :thumbsup:

Possibly....Iv'e noticed the UK does semm to do quite a few oem upgrades.....more so than anywhere else in the world :)

However a STOCK CT20b would push 1.2 bar to redline no problems....hell that's not quite the stock fuel cut :P

Im yet to see a CT26 comfortably making 300+ hp.....I admit their there BUT that seems to be the upper upper limits of only a handful of Mr2's. 9 times out of 10 the upgraded ct26's seem to be REALLY laggy......if anyone measures the ar's on both units Im sure that will open some eyes ;) Prove me wrong though :) I just haven't seen enough dyno plots etc.

because fensport are robbin theives im just getting my st205 turbo upgraded machined inlet ,and exaust exit larger steel shaft from ct26 ,thrust bearing,t38 compresser wheel adgjustable actuator bar ,and uprated actuator spring openin at 14-20psi all for 495+vat

Well - I'm being lazy and am jumping in on this post, having read it.....

I have MR2 3SGTE engines fitted in both my RAVs.

The 1st conversion uses a CT26 turbo as stock, with a GT4 intercooler and custom exhaust - pretty much straight thru.

On 1/4 mile runs, I'm getting 15.0secs, but the speed flattens from 70mph at the 1/8 distance and the terminal/exit speed is staying around 90mph. With the original RAV transmission being 4 wheel drive, I'm losing obviously on the transmission drag.

I reckon I need to think about a larger turbo to get more out of the engine - the transmission is using an uprated clutch, and the rest will take 350bhp quite well I believe from others who have done a comparable conversion.

So, to upgrading the turbo, I'm interested in hearing/seeeing ideas of what to install. The car is used for 1/4mile and fast road stuff just now so it needs to be reasonably public road friendly. The CT26 does come in at a fairly low rev and as you know tends to get tired at 5500rpm. I guess I need to get up towards 400bhp.

The car itself is a 3 door, which has been lightened a bit and using shocks set hard with assisted springs and KAD racing calipers - so everything else is up to handling the power.

(And no I can't use an MR2 cos I'm too big!!!!)
