Yaris Damage List - Insurance Help!

It will be a write off category c or d. It would only be a cat a, or b if it had a damaged chassis.

If you have a cat a or b, then the vehicle is supposed to be destroyed. There are ways of still getting it back on the road but it would probably end up as a Q plate.

My guess is that it would be a cat c (which means uneconomical to repair, or it will cost more than the cars worth to repair)

As shown above you have two choices, buy the car back cheap probably £500ish and spend a few months going round salvage yards picking parts up for it and rebuild it at a lower cost than buying another. If you do this you will never be able to trade it in at a dealer - they generally won't touch a write off. You will have to sell it privatley normally for about 25% less than normal.

Option 2. Is just to go with it - let it be written off, fight for a bit more money and buy a new car.

I have had 2 vehicles written off (not my fault) The first was an escort which got ran into the back off by a sleepy old woman. The value of the car was £2100 and the cost of repairs was £2200. I let that one go because it was starting to have a lot of other problems anyway.

My next one was my motorbike, They valued that at £3995 and sold me the scrap for £695, I spent £45 on eBay to get a new petrol tank and grab rails, and £40 for a new magneto cover and £120 having the 2 panels fixed up and sprayed. Grand total £900. So I was £3000 better off (which was cool seeing as I got the bike for £2800) I should now be able to sell the bike for about £2500

It's your choice but if you can get the parts and fit them you could make a bit of money?? Also check what is left to slavage on your car. They may sell it to you for next to nothing, and you could sell the good parts on and make a bit?? Or save them for your next car if you get the same???

It will be a cat C write off.

You can buy the car back at salvage, but it will be recorded on a data base called M.A.F.T.R The car will be worth at least 10% less in the future.

Because the type of car it is and is not in huge demand I would let it go. The reason I say that is because its not the type of car that will have people wanting to buy despite it being a write off. they would be just find another, there is plenty out there.

got good news there, I will be able to let the insurance company agree to let me buy a second hand drive shaft and steering rack , these together costs £120, saving of roughly £800 which will bring the car back to not being a write off :-D

£1,500 - thats nothing compared to what I lost with my car

Did I want my car back - yes I did, I was gutted! I cried solidly for days! Would I have fixed my car if I could - hell yeah....

But common sense kicked in - how safe will the car be if its fixed? What happens if I'm in another accident? Is it worth it?

Answer: NO!

Forget your £1,500 and just buy another one, one that will be safe if anything were to happen to you again - if the car is dead, let it rest in peace and carry on the legacy with a new one - thats what I did and yeah I still miss Karis but I know that if she'd have been fixed it wouldnt be right - Kaori is perfect and should the worst happen, I know that once again, this new car will protect me as best as it can.

Life is precious and can be taken away from you in an instant - cut your odds and let the car go.

yeah, i want my car, and I am almost positive she will be in fine working order, no engine damage, no chassis damage, only thing is the drive shaft, still not even sure if it needs a new stearing rack. so i think it would be fine, mechanics seem 2 think so too
