Running in period

Does anyone know why you have to run new celica 190's at below 4000 rpm and not above 60 mph for the first 600 miles? my dealer told me that the engines were run in at the factory and to ignore the manual. Anyone know happens if you don't torture yourself like this!!!

All cars are supposed to be run in, in a similar manner...

If you dont, nothing bad will happen (in most cases). If you dont plan on keeping the car for a long time then it probably wont make any differance to you.. Its the next owner who will get the troubles! hehe..

We have cars which have really been given some abuse from new (Nissan Sunny GTi and an Escort Rs2000) and the cars actually perform better than other Nissans and Fords of the same make which have had a gentle run in period... But my self, i always will always run engines and turbo's etc in gently, as longevity and dont need freak problems to come up, due to the not running in.

You could do 600 miles in a night! Just keep driving around a roundabout? :P

That would be the M25!:D

Take your time and run it in, especially with VVT engines, and I'm sure you won't regret it later.

dont laugh but i live i dorset and did a lap of the m25 on sep 1st because i wanted to run in my t-sport yaris and enjoy the benifits staraght away!!!:D
