My mate has had his car vandelised by a nutty ex (yeah, I laughed too!) Well, he thinks it's her. Proof will be another matter. She's scratched EVERY panel with a stanley knife! He's got a fully comp policy. I was wondering if they'll pay out for a respray? Car's worth about 3k.

I think he would save most money by claiming.

His no claims won't be affected because he is protected, the only thing that would be affected is the fact that he would have to declare that he had made a claim on his next renewal. From what I have seen this hardly makes a difference if you are over 25 and it's the first claim, and he was not at fault in causing the damage.

I think there is also some strange law which states that you are supposed to tell your insurance company about any damage even if you pay to fix it yourself. Not sure if this would apply to scrathes?? But if you drove into a lamppost at 40mph, and decided to get parts from the scrappy to fix it yourself then by law you have to tell your insurance company as you are a bigger risk to them next year!

Yes if he's got fully comprehensive he can claim. NCB protection means two claims in 5 years against the policy and will leave his NCB intact (well it does for the company I work for!). It'll be down to an approved repairer/an engineer to authorise if they will respray or if they will simply repair the scratches without a respray to the whole car. Has he had a quote done yet?

Oh and that ex of his sounds like a nightmare :ffs: :ffs:
