Power Steering Groan

hi all wonder if you can help again,

im getting a loud groaning noise from the powered steering, this only happens when turning slowly and seems to only groan when turning wheel right, i have checked the fluid level for powered steering and it was low, i have topped up but it is still groanong at me?!!? any ideas what these could be... :blink:

Could be anything dude, pump, bearing, suspension, rack...

I'd get it check out if i was you :thumbsup:

What did the fluid look like???

was it black thick and minging, or ok???

Manky oil can make things noisier!

no fluid was clean?, does this sound expensive?

could be a track rod end is worn .

could be that the rack is gone... Not great news but i doubt it, if it's a mk3 the power steering resivor has a little mesh fitting to block debris from getting recirculated. Remove the resivor and try to clean it out. Additionally loook for any leaks, if the pressure is loss because of leaks you will not have the right pressure for the rack and it will groan.

If you went really low on fluid then its possible air has entered, and will make groaning noises. To check, stop the engine and open the cap to see if there is any small bubbles in the fluid...
