just recently brought my mr2 tubby as a non runner, engines has now had a full rebuilt with everythin but the turbo and clutch beenin replaced. when engine was out these were inspected and said to be in perfect condition. been drivin the car round locally to see if any strange noises occur ( like worn bushes and stuff) and noticed a little rattle. Had it over the pit and had a look nothing is lose nothing can make the noise. im starting to suspect its coming from the turbo. is it possible to fit a new turbo with the motor still in the car or is it an engine out jobbie?? also whats the best turbo to go for and what sort of prices am i looking at?? any help on this and ill be really greatful.

its not an engine out job

I have just changed my turbo only a couple of weeks ago.

(And am about to again, after I blew my new one in a week !!)

Just WD40 all the nuts for a couple of days before and you should have no problem.

Just need to drop the exhaust from the turbo (6 nuts i recon)

remove water and oil feeds (2 nuts each)

remove turbo from manifold (4 nuts)

you may need to remove the oil filter for room, and most of the top IC pipes will have to come off to be out the way

I also removed the 'X' strut and boot lid.

Be prepare to smash up your nuckles a bit, bu you should be ok

What turbo ?

Depending on the REV of your car

Rev 1/2 have a ct26 as stock

Rev 3 + have a ct20b as stock

a stock ct20b is better than a stock ct26, so if you have a rev 1/2 then a ct20 is a good upgrade

if not get a stg 1/2 turbo (either ct26/ct20) depending on the REV of your car.

But they will all fit

I got my NEW one from Turbo Technics in Northampton, or check out fensport.com

Good luck
