Mr T Service Today

Hi

Ok my car is a GS 2000(w) model. It has done 34,700 miles. I took it for a service at my local Toyota (Arnold Clark) dealer today. It is the first one I have had done since buying the car in June last year. I was expecting to have to replace the aux belt because I could hear it making a noise over the past few weeks. They have quoted £81 to replace it. But they said that my oil sump has slight corrosion, and it is becoming porous. Is this common in a car that is on 5 years old? They are quoting £198 to do that. And finally they said that my anti-roll bar brushes in the front need replaced (£98). Does anyone know what the actual price of these parts are?

Also is this kind of wear and tear normal?

Thanks

Pamxxx

Can't help you with the rest but Toyota done this for me for £32 I think, they are probably quoting to change the whole arm and not just the bushes!!!

Go to an independant garage and get a quote from them!

If you don't have any warranties.. go to an independant garage.. could possibly half the costs. Toyota charge an arm and a leg for the slightest little thing.

The bushes wearing out will just be weare n tear (if they HAVE gone) .. as for the sump.. no problems here.

The name Arnold Clark is popping up a lot around here recently for overcharging!!

I would agree with cfc in this case Pam - take it to an independant garage - if only just to get a second opinion on these works - they will be cheaper too!

Hi Pam,

Arnold Clark do seem o keep popping up as a bunch of robbing little sods at the moment...

I would be inclined to shop about before getting any of this work done if I were you. If you're not happy with going to an independant garage then try geting quotations from other Toyota dealers. Stirling, Perth and other towns with Toyota garages aren't far away and you may find you're saving more than the petrol you would use to get there (Struans in Perth is 01738 445566 for a start - their parts and service dept is open until lunchtime on a Saturday). You should be able to find a decent independent garage in Glasgow though.

It might even be worth getting a boyfriend/father/brother/male friend from work (delete as appropriate  ) to take the car along or to come with you if you're worried about being fobbed off with bullpoo.

I know that anti-roll bar bushes at the rear can be a problem - the ones on #1 had to be changed at about 40,000 miles but it was still under warranty and I don't know how much it cost.

As regards the sump, I haven't read Seveer's post yet but you'll have to work out whether you want to live with a slight leak and keep topping up the oil or if you'd rather have it sorted (depends on the severity really).

All I can say is that I'm a bit of a !Removed! to my warranty as I drive so far every year here in the cold, snowy Highlands :)

Not sure if that's all help or just waffle

Alan

I live a couple of miles from Linwood but I've always dealt with Shields Toyota on the south side of Glasgow. They fitted my TTE springs and their prices seem pretty 'normal' for a Toyota dealer. Also so far their customer service has been very good.

the sumps do rot yes, when they get battered by stones etc, it knocks the paint off and the rusting starts :P there only pressed steel so a bit crappy.

Nah, they're not Arnold Clark, I wouldn't go to them! Shields are a main Toyota dealer.

Last year 50K service on Yaris GS 1.o L my front anti-roll bar bushes and front brake discs and pads had to be changed. They failed my MOT even my brake performance was passed.

Would you believe that I was whacked with a bill for £493 for these plus another £126 for previous day MOT and "service" - just oil change and windscreen wash top up ??? They also wanted to change my wipes for £52 (just the rubber bits) which I refused. Also if I took their advice and recommendations to do other bits the total would be in just over £1000 (yes one thousand pounds !!!). I reminded them that it was a Yaris and not a Lexus!!! The quote for job was under well unstated because an "advisor" qouted for one brake disc and pads !!! Since when you only change one side ???? :ffs:

I had to write to complain and threaten to report them to authorities, and managed to get a refund on the ground they charged me for ghost labour i.e. they charged me from the time I took the car in until they print the invoice - over 3 hrs when they only worked on it for an hour or so !!!! I was there waiting for the work to be carried out. In other words, they had the cheek to charge me for parking my car there at about £90 an hour !!!!

The year before I was charged £420 for 40k service which they decided to change my clutch fluid, coolant, gearbox oil and pollen filter without my okay. They charged £22 for labour for changing the the pollen filter !!! surely, they thought I was dumb enough not know that this was a 2 mins job without specialised skill and tool !!!!

:angry::angry:

This MR T is in North London I bought my car from them and took my car for service for the past 5 years. Goodbye to them now. A big rip off ! So be warned and have the paramedics beside you when you get your bill if you take your car there.

Anyone can better these absurd charges ?????

My 60 K service is due and definitely going to independent garage, not a Mr T.

Any one know of any good garages in North London please ???
