Turbo Kit On Celica 7a-fe 1.8 Engine

After searching around for a specific bolt-on turbo kit for may 7A-FE Celica

and not finding one,I decided to order a turbo kit from Turbo specialists in the USA

for the Corolla with the same engine as my car(7A-FE).I am now installing the kit and there are some issues that maybe somenone out there can help me with.

At the moment I cannot fit the turbo because the wastegate valve hits the top of the gearbox!! I was wondering if the CElica and Corolla have different gearboxes??

Had a look at some engine photos of the 7A-FE engine in the Corolla but hard to see if gearbox is the same!!

I am able to alter the position of the turbo inlet by rotating it and positioning the w/g in another position,but I am still wandering if on a Corolla the Turbo would fit?

And....of course...since I bought a Corolla turbo kit for my Celica I have no valid~

claim to guarantee!Thanks anyone

I will be more than pleased to send photos whem I fitted the kit. :help:

Transplanting the 3SGTE engine wasnt an option since my car is very low mileage(30,000kms) I know my engine is ok.couldnt say the same

for a used 3sgte engine!

How much would a 3sgte engine cost?maybe more than the turbo kit?

This kit has beeen tried and tested in this engine(7a-fe) in the Corolla

fir a long time now.As far I know,the fact that no one advertises this turbo kit for the celica(only corolla but same engine),I was expecting

some problems with the installation but since I have been carrying out similar mods on cars for the last 15 years,I am sure I can fit it!!My aim also is to show that it can be done and be reliable.I would apprerciate if someone coull answer the question I put on my first post...Thanks How can I post pictures?????

well i think its they have same gearbox, the kit i have fits both 7afe and 4afe and doesnt hit as the flange is at an angle away from the engine. where did u gte ur manifold? e-mail me the pictures at jabran200@yahoo.co.uk and i'll put them up.

also u got ecu etc and u gonna need to sort out fueling as well.

hi Jabran,thanks for the info,The turbo outlet flange was ponting down hitting the engine mounting,wastegate hitting the gearbox,turbo exhaust

hitting the oil filter....!Removed! nightmare!

I bought the kit from TURBOKITS.COM in the U.S.A including electronics,intercooler, and because the kit is not "bol-on",my local Toyota dealer here in Portugal couldnt and didnt have the facilities to do the installation.I am having it fitted at a specialist place"Powers1"(apparentely they have been working with ALLARD Turbosport in Wales for a no.of years and they are probably the only company here that are capable of carrying out the work on my car as they have done these sort of mods on German and French cars before and with great success.Anyway,they have changed a lot of things that were wrong with the kit and have taken step by step work photos.I am going to get everything together that has been done by now and will E-mail tomorrow with photos.Sorry,not clear!!!Do you have a turbokit installed in a Celica 7a-fe?????

i am in the rpocess i have evrything know except a sard/walbro fuel pump and gonna need to make intercooler piping as well. nearly there ;) gonna start making it hopefull end of next week, might have to do an engine swop the 4a-fe has some serious problems know it makes a loud popping sound (not exhuast i think its the induction kit) and just before it pops i the exhuast makes a burble sound like in imprezas, when i change spark plugs it is fine for a about 2 days and hapens again. gonna go to a spare 7afe my brother has in his garage from a wrecked avensis.

I have e-mailed Turbokits.com with all my queries and they replied saying that they have put my case forward to Turbo Specialties and will get back to me.

Apparently,it seems that it is Turbo SPECIALTIES who make the turbo kits and all the accessories but I cant somehow get them on the Net????Lot of people selling

their products but no way to contact directly??Any ideas?

well i have an idea, why not have a spacer made for the flange at about a 45 degree anlge to it is facing the radiator and not directly down.

how much does putting a turbo on a 7afe end up costing?

what are all the parts supplied?

what power gain do you expect?

i was thinking of building a 7age(7afe bottom end, 4age top end) with a turbo for my rwd corolla but read and heard the 7a bottom end is weak, especially flywheel bolts and the mains are only good to 7500? anyone know different cos it seems like a cheap way to make decent power.

well the 7a-fe will cost be like this if you buy from the same guy as me.

manifold and turbo + 7mgte injectors, downpipe=£400

rrfpr=£60-70

fuel pump=120

intercooler=dependent on you

piping=150

my kit is costing my under 700

those are the main things there are other tiny bits and bobs.

Hi.Jabran,we have sorted out the flange of the turbo intlet!We have rotated it upwards!On the turbo outlet(exhaust)that was hitting the oil filter,we had a smaller

oil filter installed and we shaved off 5mm off the exhaust where it bolts on to the middle of the turbo(the core).

The wastegate now is another problem!I need to rerposition it,make new mountings,etc.

Do you know the easiest place in the 7a-fe engine bay to get a RPM signal?

If you want a reasonably priced turbokit with intercooler +piping and all the

electronic boxes(map,fuel,etc) have a look at www.turbokits.com.You will find

all info you require.
