Subject to the weather staying dry, my list of jobs in the morning...

1) Remove wheels, clean inner rims,

2) Paint front and rear brake hubs (light Grey ),

3) Paint front and rear calipers( remove pads ,so i can do a proper job)

Colour Blue.

4)Fit new set of front and rear Toyota mud flaps.

Could take a bit more than the morning....time will tell :) .

That's more than one morning methinks - nice when it's all done though :)

Hi Bob,

doing something similar today apart from the painting. What paint are you using by the way?

Hope the weather holds for you,

Andy

As far as paint goes, if read dozens of post about, heat resistant paint, hammrite pant etc etc, but the best one i have found (and used on my Lexus is200 ),was good old Delux front door paint !, it hard wearing, good for outdoor use, and can be put on metal or wood :) .

And as i have a full tin of Royal Blue. that's what i'll be using for many years to come :D .

Well 4 hours later, all caliper and brake hubs painted, set 4 mud flaps fitted, suspension wax oiled and adjust up handbrake using inspection holes in rear hubs.

They look the dogs biscuit mate!

May get round to doing mine when I can be bothered to get the wheels off. My rear drums desperately need doing as they are clearly visible due to being so big on these.

Should be the 235's - 215's were on the GS and GX's - most special editions had 235's.

If a Gold club member, you can buy Bridgestone 235's for £69.09p inc vat :) .

Just a couple of questions to reveal my ignorance,

What's the difference between 215's and 235's?

Is it the width of the tyre or the diameter?

Do they both run on the same alloys or do they need to be a different size?

What difference do they make to performance on/off road?

(I've never "changed" tyres before I've always just had existing ones replaced "like for like")

The 235 bit refers to the width of the tyre, so therefore the 215 versions are 20mm narrower. Essentially, on road performance is reduced by narrower tyres, however tyre noise may be reduced and rolling road resistance also which helps the fuel consumption thing.

Do you find the road noise intrusive on your freesport? I've worked hard on sound proofing my 1998 VX (same model) and it's still poor. Am thinking of buying tyres with a proper on road tread, instead of on/off road style tyres. The chances of me ever taking mine off road is minimal.

Hey - perhaps we should start a tyre thread for RAV's.

- Vehicle info. - 3 or 5 dr / petrol / diesel

- Tyre make

- Tyre size

- Mileage completed on them (either at time of post or life of tyre)

- Subjective notes on on-road performance - noise / dry grip / wet grip / on road

- Subjective notes on off-road performance - experiences if any !

Know this info. is already on web but often US based for type specs not available over here.

Not noticed much difference between 215.70.16 and 235.60.16

Big difference in noise depending on tread style

BF Goodrich A/T - Never wear out but hum like !Removed! hell

Pirreli Scorpian are pretty good, Look good and fairly quiet

Michelin Pilot last long and quiet but expensive

Toyo are pretty good

Dunlop very over rated and wear quickly

Just as I was hoping then, must be tread style. Looks like i'll be buying new tyres soon then!

Didn't fancy going narrower really, the wide ones look good. Will have a look at the Pirelli then if you say they are quiet, my dad works for them anyway so should be able to get them at a nice price.
