choice of browser is irrelevant

the important issue is to keep your software patched and up to date.

I prefer Firefox - but simply using an alternative browser is no guaranty of safety or security. Keep your computer patched and up to date

less windows products = more secure

MS invented patches

errrmmm - thats completely untrue.

ALL software is fallable.

The majority of software is patched.

The predominance of Microsoft products makes them a target for people who like to exploit machines for their own gain.

You are simply proposing a form of the "security through obscurity" argument.

I am no windows or MS fan boy - but your statements are exceptionally weak

Zero vulnerabilty, no surprises there since anyone who keeps up with their security updates should be fine -- I'm amazed that the site claims that around half of all machines have at least some risk.

This looked like a chance to sell something while also collecting statistics -- rather like conducting a survey and promoting products without raffling a prize! I feel ripped off :o

I do find it funny when people claim only MS products have bugs and can be hacked...

It was even funnier a month or two ago when a critical flaw was found in Firefox..

wont me, I said less MS = more secure, the emphasis was on more secure not totally secure

there is no such thing as totally secure if the machine is connected to the internet.

there is only what you consider a level of security adequate to the task of protecting the machine in question.

BTW - Martin Longbow is m second favourite character in that series, second only to Thomas, the Valheru ;)

Nothing wrong here according to that test...

I took a look at the statistics saying about 50% of people had security flaws. The chances are that its higher than that though as the people who are bothering to test their system are the people more likely to be trying to keep their system secure in the first place

Does that make sense?

Alan Hi

Sounds about right to me. I've worked with PC's for over 10 years

I have lost count of the number of PC's I've set up for friends, sorted them with AV, anti spam, firewall etc and automated the upgrade process only to have them call me months later to fix problems caused by not doing any of the updates.

AAAARRRRRRRGGGGG!

Once we get started on PC's it's my 2nd fav moan (1St is MS bashing)

But your right, you have to be kind of security aware before you will be bothered to run the test.
