Swap Ariel For Ps2

Does anybody know how to remove the toyota electric ariel because 1) Its broke anyway and 2) They look better down and the radio works just as good.

I would like to leave the part that you see from outside the car though or remove it all and replace it with a modern bee sting ariel or similar (please post pics if anyone has done this)

After looking everywhere trying to find some where to install my PS2 in my car where it wont take up any room or be in view, I have decided it will go where the ariel motor is, providing it fits that is

Does it get damp there in the winter?

Would it be easy to feed the wires through from there into the cockpit?

I am guessing there is already power in the boot but does it come on when the radio comes on or is that just controled by the ariel relay as I wouldn't want the radio on at the same time?

I think it would be too many wires to feed through the controllers so have found these on eBay (click) but could the engine interfere with them?

thanks in advance :D

First, bin the ariel .. get a wire from maplin and wrap it round your boot behind the carpet.

My PS2 sat in the glovebox and the Xbox behind the drivers seat ..

Hi bibbs I want to bin the ariel but I don't know how to get it out. The reason I either want to leave the outside bit of the ariel there or ger a modern ariel is because I don't want a hole in the side of my car and It would be a cheaper option that getting the hole filled.

I've tried to get my ps2 everywhere in the car it won't fit under the seats or behind them or in the box behind the drivers seat. I don't want it in the glove box because it won't shut and I would likke to still be able to use it. The place where the ariel motor is seems perfect for my ps2 as long as it doesn't get damp in the winter, is there a way to prevent this? Also would it be easy to feed the wires through from the boot?

Thanks

The motor is behind the carpet .. you'll need to undo the collar on the outside too ..

And it gets VERY wet around there, and no, there isn't anything you can do .. Bin the spare wheel and pop it in there ..

I bought a new slimline PS2 to save on space, and ive fitted it into the storage box behind the drivers seat.

The electric antenna, is quite an ***** to remove if you dont know how its atatched, you will have to remove the rubber lug on the outside of the car, and then unscrew the collar thats holding the antenna in, (persuming that you have the ariel going through the spoiler) you will have to get some little fingers or a set of small pliers inside the spoiler from the outside to turn the collar.

The motor then unbolts from the chasis and comes away easy.

If your replacing the antenna with a standard bee sting, then make sure it will fit if you have the spoiler ;)

You shouldnt have much problems leading the wires anywhere in the car, as its all quite easy in terms of routing. I wired my PS2, amps ect straight to the Battery, and putt in an inline fuse, i fed all the wires down the central collom of the car, past the gear stick, and in to the stereo console, i then led it out to the Battery.

The amplfiers ect are wired staright through to the power, and have a remote wire connected to the stereo to enable the amp to cut off and come on with the stereo.

The PS2 and other items TV ect is wired to the Battery but i have put a dead mans handle in between to enable me to shut of the power. (ive located the handle behind the drivers seat next to the engine bay realease.

I have this cut off switch B0000AXR02.01-AZ71P3AYYLDQO._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

but you could go with the other type that has a removeable key

Battery_Isolator_(f)_190.jpg

both switches are available from car shops, or marine specialists

If in doubt consult a automotive electrician

How did you power a slimline ps2 fron your car Battery as I might get one because I accidentally short circuited mine and it won't work anymore

Thanks for the tips I have cut the ariel off with pipe cutterand I will definately put a switch in great idea about the keyed switch.

thanks again
