Dear All,

We have been set until now at having to go down the MOTEC M4 ECU conversion, in order to get the performance and control features we want for the Rally Car, but in the final Furlong, Haltech have come up the outside with a very good looking product, the E6X.

At Half the price of the MOTEC unit, this is giving us some serious pause for consideration!

We are going to be replacing injectors, and adding Water Injection etc, and this little piece of kit might just do the job!

Just Wondering if anyone here is running a Haltech ECU and their thoughts?

Sorry, don't know anything about the Haltech. Do you know how good their UK support is? I guess a piggyback ECU is not going to be anywhere near up to the job for your car, ruling out the e-manage.

Have you looked at the AEM solutions? They have masses of features (they can control just about anything including autoboxes, vvti etc), but I believe the software can be a bit daunting at first. They are good value for money though. And you can map them using boost compensation, which is a bonus.

Thanks Mike will have a look at AEM.

AET Turbo's Oooop North! :P Are the UK main dealer for Haltech so we will see what they are like to deal with.

By support I meant in terms of mapping the ECU, not sales and service. The difficulty with aftermarket ECU's is getting them setup so that they have good all round performance. It's easy to set them up for peak power but other factors like instantaneous throttle response (acceleration enrichment), turbo spool times, hot and cold starting, emissions control etc, are all more difficult to get right. Stuff the OEMs are really good at, but is often not appreciated/too much work for aftermarket tuners.

I don't know how many good tuners there are in this country who support the Haltech and AEM, but it could be a deciding factor if you have to travel 300 miles to find a good one. I have heard of one guy who is regarded highly when it comes to mapping the AEM, but he lives in Greece, and his charges make the initial cost of the ECU pale into insignificance (so I have heard).

Mike Hi,

The guy who is going to be building my engine is a superb Motorsport Engineer that has driven and prepared, built and tuned, Metro 6R4's, Escort Cossies Group A and N and recently built a Celica GT4 ST205 with 400BHP for a customer!

Supposedly the guys at Fensport were rather impressed!

I have known him for a few years and highly respect his build and tuning capability! If all goes well with this, we'll post what we did, what the performance gain is and what he will charge to do the same for anyone else! :D

He lives and works near Croydon..which is a damn site nearer than Greece! :thumbsup:

Engine work should begin within the next 10 days!
