Hi guys got the go ahead from the old man to get a supra (think he was abit worried about me overtaking his Griffith 500) now how much history comes with imported cars? Im looking at a manual SZ that was imported last week but worried because of service history and owners etc. Has anyone who has had one imported had anyproblems or were you able to find things out??

my manual SZ was imported 3 weeks ago. Luckly mine came with service history from japan and on top of that i know these cars pretty much inside out now.

Unless there is any history "FROM JAPAN" then take the mileage as being incorrect.

Without any form of proof you cannot guarantee the engine has done the mileage the dealer says it has.

Most important things to check on the sz manual are...

Smoke on startup, should only happen if the car has over 100k miles on it and if this is the case it should only be a short puff. Any more than that - just walk away.

Noise from under the bonnet, you should only be able to hear the injectors clicking and the belts moving from the engine. Any other sounds should not be there, especially whining sounds. This could be the power steering on the way out.

Check all body panels for damage or bad repairs. Check it brakes evenly and doesnt pull to one side when driving.

Make sure the UK conversion (Speedo, Foglight etc) is carried out properly. Some places will leave the speedo in kmph or do a dodgy conversion.

Another thing to check is the tyres, mine came with a set of snow tyres on it and it had 8 inch wheels all round, the rears should be 8.5in.

Hi guys I’m going down to Bournemouth on Wednesday to have a look a car however the garage has it labelled as a 3.0i V6!! Now I may have only been researching for a week but I’m sure that they are straight 6 engines. It’s due in Tuesday and the garage has some interesting cars in (couple of TVR’s some old vintage cars and a lot of high performance cars) so I feel that it will have been looked over well. Does any one know of HMC Ltd in Bournemouth? As I cant seem to find any customer feed back at all on the web. Can’t wait may have one by next weekend if all goes well!!

Oh and Leeky when you say smoke on start up do you mean exhust?

Thanks

Yeah, smoke from the exhaust.

The dealer is an idiot (most dealers are) for labelling it as a v6. I've argued with dealers over the phone before now as they swear they have v6 supras.

I've even lifted the bonnet of a dealer car and he still insisted it was a v6

At least you know when you have a look at the car that the dealer is an idiot - thus do not believe a single word he says ;)

Whats the details of the car? Im selling imported cars now myself so i should be able to find one for you if your interested ;)

All they have so far is 1994 "V6" Supra Manual, 58000 miles Superb example.

£5995

I have to ring on Tuesday to ask for further details.

My budget is only £6500 but I am looking for a Manual and it must be Black not too bothered about TT or N/A but would perfer a N/A as my mechanic hasnt got the tools for a TT

Not sure but apparently they had to turn one away I mean its not like they dont know cars as they run an old GT40 plus a somer other relics. I think the other car had a blown turbo or somthing so quite pricy

Although if you look in some of the bigger Halfrauds they have AC gassing stuff now. But in all honesty i'd rather leave that to the guys who are a bit more experienced with that sort of thing.
