£10 = 50 miles of town driving, stop start, thats never boosting changing up at 2k and coasting downhills.

Yeah, i get about 50 miles to a £10 "genral use"

Boosting all the time i can use like £10 in 30 miles or less !

But motorway cruising aint too bad if i dont boost, id say an extra 15-20 for my £10 !!

  • 2 weeks later...

My 97 Turbo has returned up to 302 miles on a tank, running 304BHP with a combination of motorway driving between 80-100. Push it beyond that and the gauge starts to plummet, accelerate hard all of the time or do a lot of town work and you'll run more like 200 from a tankful.

Still some of the best fun on four wheels though, and not really that bad considering the performance that you get.

My last stock 245 turbo gave about the same consumption btw, with less performance, so using decent tuning kit like HKS does seem to pay off in the long run.

just to add to this had an oil change, mobile1 fully synthetic 15w 50, and a new oil filter, can safely say 60 miles to a tenner now, maybe a little bit more! although thats crap compared to alot of other crs its cool comming from 50 to a tenner!

yea id say i get 60 miles to £10, thats with coasting wenever u gonna need to start to slow down and changing at 2k rpm, i should really use the turbo more. another mr2 turbo owner said that he always keeps his tank aleast half full cos it saves petrol, is this true? ive noticed that the second half seems to go quicker

I dont know if the gauge on the Celica GT is the same, but the small sections on the fuel gauge seem to be 20 litres and the bigger ones seem to be 10 litres. So it would seem it goes down quicker as the first small section takes a while to go down, but you never really go into the last small bit. so really you would only use 2/3rds of your tank, and 1/3rd is the the 2 big bits together :). What an odd way of doing it.

I have no idea why people try work out fuel consumption from a tenner

1] If you can't afford to put more than a tenner in at a time, you shouldn't be owning an MR2 turbo (or any other turbo for that matter - scooby's are a lot worse with fuel consumption than an MR2-T).

2] It is not good running a performance car on an empty tank constantly. There can be a considerable amount of gunk and crap at the bottom of a fuel tank. Granted there are filters etc... but still these particles can "pollute" (SP?) the petrol in there.

3] You will never get an accurate MPG off running tenners all the time. Saying 50 or 60 miles on a tenner is guess work and probably rubbish IMO - I get around 28 - 35 MPG (around 250 - 280 miles on a full tank) but then I don't really pussyfoot about either ;)

Wow!

I feel positively miserly. I get between 32mpg and 40mpg (the 40 is when Anne drives it all the time  ) and no I don’t drive like a granddad. ;)

I know I't's not a MkII turbo, but its's fun, corners like snot to a blanket and has just as much grin factor

ive noticed that the second half seems to go quicker

Its the shape of the tank.

Shaped like a V so ya get more towards the top, then less at the bottom, hence it decreases quicker!

The bottom half goes quicker in most Toyota's, the bottom half goes quicker in my Yaris aswell which makes it seem like the petrol tank could be shaped like a V!
