Lower Consumption

My Avensis 1.8 VVTi 2005 has now 9000km. From the first kilometer fuel consuption was between 7,2 and 7,5 liters per 100km, according to trip computer. Basicaly, as I do the same road every day, I was spending two full tanks per month. When my car had arround 1000km, a friend of mine, that owns Corrola Verso, has told me that arround 7000km car would start spending much less fuel. OK, but it was hard to believe. Ultimately I've noticed that I don't need to refill each 15 days. Still doing the same road every day, I drive 18 days before fuel warning light. I've checked trip computer today and it says 6,9 liters.

Is it possible??? I mean, I can see that car spends less fuel and it was always 95oct from same gas station.

hi i cannot comment on toyota cars using less fuel after a set time, but before my corolla i brought a new rover 25 1.6 and after about 7000 miles my mpg had gone up from 30mpg to 38 and stayed there until my girlfriend wrote it off was only 4 months old has well. Has for my corolla it was 3 years old 25000 mile on the clock that does 43-50 mpg and a year on and another 20000 miles its still doing around the same mpg.

This is quite normal on a newer car. The engine is tight, and needs to wear a little. Generally, they become a little more powerfull too after they've worn in.

Always takes a few thousand miles for engines to bed in a loosen up. Piston rings have to bed in; same with the bearings. All adds up eventually and you'll find things like performance and fuel consumption on any engine will improve after the first 5,000-10,000 miles
