Acis - How The Hell To Make It Work On A 5efe...

Yes, i know this has been asked a lot of times, heck, even i asked a lot of times, but now that i just bought the manifold myself, its legitimate and not just research.

So basically, I would like to get the manifold to work on the 5efe as it would work normally on the 5efhe. sure, i could've just gotten a 5efhe but what the hell. so as i understand it, at low engine revolutions the longer runners are used for better low-end torque, whereas after a certain engine speed, the shorter runners are put into use for better high end torque. So if anyone has done this before, or knows how to do it, how do i make the acis perform like so on the 5efe? i've heard of having to tee off a vacuum connection, getting an rpm activated device of some sort to operate the runner change, and even some talk of having to use the 5efhe ecu, but is there anyone with clear cut ideas as to how to do it?

likewise, if there is anybody that has done it themselves, or knows how to do it and is in either surrey (around caterham) or oxfordshire (around oxford brookes uni) maybe we could even setup a day out where we could try work on it. alternatively, is there any vehicle specialist in either of the 2 counties that would know how to perform this, then lemme know, thanks

i dont think you could use the 5efhe ecu, does the 5efe have a separate coil? if it does then you could try it if not, i doubt it'll work. thats where my 5efhe engine conversion fell foul apparently.

no idea on the rest buddy.

Rich.

nope, the 5efe has a distributor...which is annoying cause i get so many different replies for fitting the acis, but the people in america have the dis 5efe, whereas we don't...thanks anyway rich!

anyone else?

i've looked in my '95 Paseo USA workshop manual - no mentio

I've looked in my Sera stuff - no mention

hmm, that sucks. cause ive always gotten two replies...one is to use an rpm activated electronic device to open the butterflies, whereas another states that a vacuum is to be used...

the latest i heard is that the automatic cynos' had the vacuum operated acis, whereas the manual ones utilised the electronic operated ones...im pretty certain someone in america has done it, so i just need someone to tell me how... :(

Well the ACIS manifold I had definately had a vacuum operating changover system. Unfortunatly I got conflicting information on how to fit it, and with the added complication with a turbo engine often has manifold pressure rather than vacuum, so I decided against fitting it.

I've never seen any information on it.

well on tgtt i just got someone telling me that he has done it on a 5efe, and said something about using a one way valve, an rpm switch and a solenoid...but the problem is that quite a few people have put them on their car on tgtt...but they're all turbo'd, so they use actuators and whatnot, and utilise them a bit differently, i.e. short runners at low speeds, and all 8 on boost...
