Vvti Hot Start Problems

When the air temperature is hot I have problems starting my gen 7 VVTI Celica!

The engine can take 30-40 seconds on the starter to get going and then it missfires for the first couple of minutes. This has been getting worse over the last six months. Once started the car performs normally.

When it's cold (ie. early morning) it starts on the first turn!

Any ideas? A problem with the temperature sensor?

There's not much information available regarding the EFI system on the gen 7. But the coolant temp sensor sounds like an obvious thing to consider.
