"new" Car Advice Needed Please

I need some advice on what to look for in a older Carina Estate.

Seen a fairly tasty looking 1995 Carina E 1.6 GS estate with 119k but no history for £950 from a dealer.

All the usual GS bots plus a towbar with one power socket.

Price seems got according to Autotrader - but the lack of a history is worrying.

Any ideas on

MPG

Insurance

What mechanicals are likely to cost in the short term at this age/mileage

I do @ 18k miles per annum (all long journey commutes) - so is the diesel a better option?

Cheers in advance

Hi there

I'm no expert but I wouldn't buy a Toyota without plenty of history especially a high milage one with a tow bar. They are super reliable but without the history you don't know if it has been maintained properly - also is the mileage verified?

What has it been towing - the 1.6 is a good engine but if it has been strained towing heavy goods...?

18000 miles per annum .. I don't think the savings on fuel costs per year will be much difference tbh

here is the parkers guide link for specs:

Cheers

Andy
