Just found out that I have to replace my catalitic converter on my 1995/6 Previa 2.4 GL auto 117.000 miles. £280 PHEW!!!!!!!!!!

Would this result in better performance / fuel consumption?

Toyotas Technical team just told me that the CAT failure on my new shape Previa at 42,000 miles and only 4 years 8 months old would be inline with normal wear and tear...cost £650 plus fitting plus 4 new sensors @£200 each....so based on that your CAT has done very well.

From what i understand it depends upon how they fail e.g if any Sensors are giving incorrect readings causing the ECU to adjust paramters this would determine if any better performance or economy would result..

Thanks for that. I take it that your price is from a Toyota dealer. I'm having mine fitted on Friday at Kwik Fitt and the £280 is with 2 sensors. So your price seems very steep. Also 42,000 miles and already a new cat?

That is nothing short of a horror story .£1450 for a cat plus 4 sensors. i would sell the car . if i buy the new model previa ill be checking out parts first.

but i will be using from kwikfit also.

Iv been using them for about 20 years now with no problems.

in fact iv went to them when i used networkq once and they totally messed up my alignment. told me i had major probs with my struts and stuff and i had to get cameras set up from specialist cars and that alone would cost me the ton. i went streight round to kwik fit ten mins and £19 later , sorted :) .

dont use a main dealer if you dont have to , always search around .call all the free phone numbers for a quote if you havent the time to go round garages. ;)
