Hey,

I asked a couple of questions about buying a Celica a couple of months back, but since then I've almost bought a '96 Range Rover. Finally swung back to the Celica now, on running costs, but I've got much more money to play with. I'm looking to buy a car in the £2000 range, and then I've got about £2k to spend on it. A fair amount of this is going on an "Audio Project" I've been designing myself, but I will have some cash free for other bits. What I want to know is, what exhaust system can I get for it, that will produce a nice sound, and not cost huge amounts.

The model I'm buying is a '96 2.0 GT, UK Model.

I'm probably going with a K&N 57i Induction Kit for now as well, as it's fairly cheap. I know people like panel filters here, but I'm not as struck yet.

Anyways, recommendation for exhausts, and where I can get it fitted are very welcome please. I'm near Morpeth, Cramlington, Bedlington, Ashington, Newcastle kinda area, but I can travel to Sunderland, Durham reasonable happily.

seems very cheap for a gen 6. Personally I prefer to spend 4 grand on a better car rather than spend 2 grand, plus throw 2 grand away on mods that will never be recovered. But each to their own!

Hey,

The car's in the family, hence the price, and it's got 80K with a service history. Before I spend any money on mods, I intend to stick it in for an RAC vehicle check as well, so if there's anything about to go wrong, I can get it replaced first. I'm thinking this is the best course of action. Any other suggestions. I'm fairly happy it's a good car though.

Any thoughts on exhausts by the way?

Sounds like a bargain then :thumbsup:

A lot of people recommend the powerflow exhausts, but a few people are sceptical about them. You do get a lifetime gaurantee with them though

Powerflow all the way, because you can get them custom built to your taste and mine looks and sounds fantastic and I have never had one problem with it yet and even if I did they have a lifetime garranty!

Welcome to the world of Celica fella, make sure you get a decat pipe fitted, they rock, they sound better and give you that llittle bit more grunt.

Anyway...good luck with the purchase.

they will also tailor it to your needs and ask what you want it for (show, sound, performance or all of the above) and if you have a car that none of the other main companys catour they will custom one for your car. i use to have a P plate Escort sallon(no it wasnt an orion) but because of the extra lenth nobody at a performance company did one so they did it for me. :D

i also have one ready to fit to my 88 celica(if i ever get round to fitting it)

Excellent, had a look at their website, and they seem really cool, I'll definitely be checking them out.

(takes breath) What about Air Filters then? Lol. Don't kick me for saying this but... I'm more keen on a normal cone type filter than a panel filter. I don't mind the idea of a forced induction kit. A mate of mine has a '98 Civic VTi with an AEM forced induction, so the pipe goes down to the front bumper for clean air. Sounds great, and it's quick enough. What are you guys using? I'm open to suggestions, I've by no means made my mind up.

Cheers for all your input so far,oh, and SyCelicaGT, I've got a mate at Uni in Reading, and I might be down there next year, so maybe we can meet up, should have my car by then lol.

The cone filter is the way forward if you want the induction sucking noise coming from under your bonnet. (which I do!) You can argue all day long about if the panel or cone filter is better. I personally think there is only a very small differance in performance between the two but the theory of feeding cold air to the engine makes me think that the panel filter would pip the cone filter in terms of performance, but I think the wonderful noise it makes gives the imperession it is going faster anyway so it is all relative.

I have a K&N filter on mine whihc seems to work a treat although I hear the Japaniese filters such as blitz are very good and probably a bit better abet a little more expensive.

The forced induction would probably be a better idea as the Celica suffers from cronic engine heat soak as there is very little vendilation going to the engine, therefore I would suggest this is the way forward but it is expensive and I don't think you get the same induction note comming from the engine as the air filter is covered up (please correct me if I am wrong as I have not hear one of these in the flesh).

Anyway enough of my rambling! Basically if you want the induction note go for a cone filter otherwise the choice is yours!

Don't bother coming to Reading the nightlife sucks! Na only kidding, it's not to bad. Check out the fez club if you come down.

Not to be too vain, but I want the noise lol. I don't tear around anywhere, the only time I'm going to be really hammering it is maybe next summer on a track day, but I'm not one for speeding on country roads etc, so I'd go for the sound, you're dead right, it makes it feel faster if you have a nice roar. Out of interest, which K&N induction kit do you have, is it the 57i?

What ever happenad to the standard beauty? i'm still trying to get to grips with my 1990 gt4, nearly mastered it tho. Thinking of a Supra instead of mods, But may be swayed. cat.

I would of got a Powerflow for my celica but found my kakimoto exhaust at the time, its also de cated If you can get hold of a kakimoto i recomned them they sound like nothing else, mate spent £700 on a tanabe exhaust just as loud. as for induction kit im after a hks cone filter bout £150 everywhere mate has 1 on his crx and pulsar Gti-r they sound so, so good, adds more response and power.

Forced induction kit? Is this actually what they call it? Forced induction is one of three things... Turbo, Supercharger or Nitrous. I'm not familiar with UK terms but hmmm ok...

Pod filters will do well if you can get cold air to them, just be cautious about mounting them low down in the bumper (great source of cold air) as then water can become an issue. Also the length of the pipe can have an impact of the performance of the engine, so may pay to research that or as you say just get a kit where the hard work has been done for you.

Really its a cold air feed kit. I suppose if your doing a rate of knots it could force a little more air in. But as GT-Four NZ points out, Forced induction is Precisely that. Induction forced under pressure greater than atmospheric pressure. ie. Turbo, Supercharging or NOS. :thumbsup:
