Cv Joint

Hi ppl, just to let u know, never attempt to do an outer CV joint on a corolla E10. went to my local motor factors to pick up a new outer CV joint, not a problem. Went to fit it, that was a problem. was looking through the haynes manual to find that if you need to change the outer CV joint, u need to replace the whole driveshaft, and i can see why, there is a metal circlip between the splines and the hex joint on the end of the shaft. Which cannot be removed. My only option now is to see if i can angle grind down the hex joint, which comes with the new one so i dont need it, and see if i can get it off the splines from there, As long as that goes to plan. its plain sailing from there. I jus wish that my motor factors or toyota dealership had told me this, but i was not told anything. I just thought id tell u my little story so that no one else has the same problem that i did

That's not true! I gave my CV a hard impact with a hammer and it compressed that ring and dropped right off. Then the new one just slipped on until the ring went "click".

Paul.
