This is my first post, hope it's in the right place. Please could anyone tell me where the engine number is?

Bob King replied to me on this same subject in February - he replied :

"You'll find the engine number ( looking at engine from front, with bonnet open ), look were the engine bolts to the gearbox, halfway down the side of the engine block is a flat area with the number stamped on it."

My engine is too dirty/corroded to read it though!
