Celica St185 Issues

Hi, im new so be gentle!

Ive had the 1990 celica st185 for about 3 years, its done about 120k and is a bit tatty now but engine is strong. Shes called Sindy.

To the problem, about a year ago a knocking noise started in the rear left side of the wheel. There is substansial heat coming from that wheel. It occurs when the road is bumpy, and continues which i would have thought related to the suspension. It sounds like a branch is caught sticking into the actual wheel and is getting so bad the car is vibrating.

Its been to the garage for this problem a few time, had new handbrake shoes, disks etc. Reading other posts, im wondering if its the bushes or the link arms. DBF still believes it to be the brakes but im wondering whether its best now to look else where.

Related to this is when i jack it up that left wheel up, the wheel with not rotate forward as though some sort of brake is holding it. I cant find any information on whether this should happen and whether this is related to the problem. its attached by a spring but i cant really give any detail.

Basically we sort it out or we scrap it which is not what i want to do.

Any advice will be greatfully accepted!

Thanks

could be a whel bearing or seized caliper. if you can get it over to nottingham, the ian at toyauto centre may be able to help. he is a GT4 specialist and he has proberly more knowledge than any one else on all things GT4. his phone number is 0115 9787844

Even With new E-Brake Shoes There is a Possibility Of Tension Calibration in the E-Brake Line, just a suggestion but i would make sure the line has any amount of slack to it when the E-Brake is disengaged, i have a Le Baron with the same problem, solved my problem and made its trip from house to field to be used for target practice.

Does the wheel rotate freely if you force the pads apart a little. If it does then suspect a sticking caliper(could be piston or slides). If it still wont turn freely when the brake pads have been forced apart it could be wheel bearing or even a CV joint.
