do ur upgrading piece by piece.... aside from anything it helps with platform stability

just at a glance, i didnt study it so sry if i misread, im thinking just upgrade your memory first and see what its like.... windows xp is heavy on system ram and if im not mistaken you have the bare minimum to run the operating system by itself... this isnt good. just make sure you get suitable memory for it and perhaps use something like belarac adviser to see what the performance on various setups is like.

gonna have a detailed look at what you got in a lil while as i jus got back from nightmare shopping and ... im bushed

best wishes mate :)

also i just noticed some other things..... ur running at 60 hz... max out your refresh rate on your monitor to as high as is available from the appropriate display refresh rates (making sure your monitor supports it ofc)

also that soundcard isnt going to be helping matters... the live series are now pretty darn old and id say its a bottleneck in your machines performance... a modern sound card will do wonders i reckon and also sound way better ...esp with a good speaker setup....

if your certain these are appropriate chips .... dont think theres really gonna be any significant diference between the 2. it might be worthwhile asking in a techforum to make sure ... not copping out .... just acknowledging that those guys really know their stuff :)

Defo on the Corsair memory!

As to the HD, I just purchased a 300Gb IDE with A 16Mb cache for around £80 for use in a Netgear SC101 for work. The SATA one is not much more.

Cheers,

Jim

Right, again cheers for all the help.

Been window shopping as per suggestions and come up with this lot:

Corsair 512MB PC2100 DDR DIMM Memory £40.43 each via corsiar's own site using their system select option.

and

Western Digital 300Gb IDE Hard Disk Drive WD3000JB £112

or

Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6L300R0 300GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA133 Hard Drive - OEM £80

What do you think? Worth spending the cash?
