Hi All,

Its Gaz here.

Ive had Avensis for years, I consider myself to be a serious driver, wrecking a car once a year, and replacing it once a year.

I take my car to the end of the world, drive it in places that Toyota never imagined the Avensis to go, and put 5000 miles on the clock per month.

Ok, thats the life story over with, I was so impressed with the Avensis, that I stuck with it, and just upped the model every year, until I finally had this model (T3X) which I decided to stick with.

FIRST PROBLEM (Just a whinge)

Origional Tyres...

Toyota have fitted Summer Tyres to my car, as appose to All Weather tyres (Why I have no idea) It nearly killed me.... I Should have checked.

Whilst driving in - 7 in Germany... Not particuarly cold, I got snowed in. Tyre grip was obviously poor, as I had summer tyres on, and after ragging the car, nearly burning the clutch out, and much pushing by farmers I free'd myself onto some hardstanding.

The usual warning lights (ABS etc) came on, but after a running of about 10 miles, and then reseting the engine, all was ok.

SECOND PROBLEM (The real problem)

I went to Autohaus Ikemeyer, the local Toyota garrage, and asked to be quoted happy on tyre prices, for all weather tyres... guess how much

800 Euro for 4, that was 150 Euro Each and 200 Euro for the work.

I have no idea what this is in pounds, but my god am I shocked.

I cant afford to pay this ammount this month, but I shopped around, and the prices were much the same everywhere here in Germany.

Do you reckon this is expensive, or should I wind my neck in and just pay it?

and also do you reckon Toyota are becoming more expensive on the everything front?

Please do get back to me... Im not sure if I want to do this Toyota thing anymore.... Then again, no other car would survive :-

Being forded in Poland

-30 in Bosnia

Driving x country (Well, off road, well, off the tarmac)

and much more!

Doesn't sound too expensive. Mine were around EUR 850, including the wheel drums. They are a good make, though (studded).

Winter tyres

What I call friction tyres (the non-studded winter tyre) are similarly priced.

The cheapest tyres in Germany are bought via the Net:

here are some addresses:

http://www.sicherbestellen.de/reifendirekt-en/start.html

http://www2.reifen.com/openshop?0000000000...000000227fe8019

http://www.reifentiefpreis.de/shop/

a set of 4 winter tyres 205/55 R 16 index H should cost 420 to 600 EUR maximum depending on the brand you chose

Best regards from Slovenia

and have a safe drive
