Recommended Posts

Hi! Any info on changing wheels around to even out tyre wear on Yaris?

Does one change back to front or diagonally? At what mileage or not at all?

Any advice gratefully received.

depends on tyre wear mate, u should do it diagonally (ur hand book tells u the rotation pattern)

In the past Ive brought backs to front and vice versa - to be honest it doesnt make that much difference. You can get good tyres (Toyos) for the standard and aftermarket rims are competitive prices.

I work on the basis that its the tyres that keep me on the road - no messing about.

Swapping back to front does the job... do it when the fronts are getting to less than half wear.

Never used to recomend swoping tyres round.

All that hapens is that all 4 end up wearing out at the same time.

Just replace the two fronts when needed, and leave the rears to follow.

Rears should last 3 sets of fronts out. Depending on ones type of driving.

Nought wrong with changing to a different make of tyre, as long as you keep them in pairs on the front,or the rear. Dont mix them up.

Ps. How many miles you getting on your tyre.?

So far on My 1.3 fronts are 22,000 miles almost need new now.

The D4D only done 10,000 so long way off of needing them yet.

Sometimes you find that the rears are not always balanced either, so sticking a rear wheel on the front can cause sterring vibration.

As said, you just end up having to replace all four in one go..and during the latter 75% of wear you don't have much tread all round.

Need to watch ya tread pattern too, alot of tyres these day are uni-directional...so swapping diagonally is out, besides doing this you end up with different wear rates on either side, never mind front and back which is asking for trouble.

Thanks all for info....Local Mr T said don't bother to swap tyres. I have writen to HQ in Sunderland to get the gospel (if there is any gospel)

I'm very nosey...Local Mr T says don't swap...Yaris handbook says swap according to 'turning indicator' on tyre (Yaris bible page 261)...I'll wait for HQ to reply ..assuming that anyone there knows what I'm talking about........cheers

Thats a wast of time them.

They know nothing.

Just do as we said. Leave em well alone.

One other reason. If you have a suspension/steering poblem arise, you will be able to identify where the said problem is.

If you mess around with swoping the tyres you will never find the problem.

Depends if your tyres are uni-directional .. and the same size.

(my cars are uni-directional, and different sizes, so rotation can't be done).

If they are bi-directional and the same size, swap diagonally, if they are uni-directional, just swap front/back.

just make sure if u do swap, that the rear ones have plenty of tread, as it is recommended that when u buy new tyres the best ones should be kept on the back cos if u lose the back end it is much harder to control than the front

Sorry Willya to disagree here.

But Always put the Best tyres to the front.

These take all the stress. Front wheel drive, main braking, steering etc,etc.

Thats why they wear out faster on the front.

This topic came up before about the rear being considered more important recently over fronts. This is due to being able to control them. Obviously the best is to have all your tires in good condition! Its a bit of a misty area but there are arguments for and against both.

I'm very grateful for all this feedback. It is obviously better than listening to local Mr T or contacting HQ.
