Avensis Auto Stalling

Hi,

My Avensis 1.6 has recently started to stall. This tends to happen while in queues etc. The car will re-start once it has cooled down. No engine management light show up etc. It will start straight away if it is pushed.

Can anyone help!!!

My new Avensis 2litre auto would stall now and then just when I had pulled up to a junction, then put my foot on the gas to pull away-it would die and roll me into the lane of traffic-not a good place to be.

Eventually my dealer found a Toyota fault report saying the ECU was to blame-new ECU fitted and, touch wood, no stalling.

However on an older car I would expect something else if it has only just started doing it.

Does it die just as you come to a stop, or once you have been stopped for a while?

Thanks for the reply.

Mine is a 1998 Avensis. Stalls when stopped at Junctions or stopped in traffic queues. Other than that it starts fine in the mornings / afternoons etc.

Hi

My Avensis 1.8 petrol manual does this same. Only once engine is warm.

Stopping a junction , it drops rev quickly then either stalls or recovers and over-revs for a few seconds.

I'm getting my local garage to take a look, but any advice would be gratefully excepted.

I've dismissed petrol already and oil.

If this was a Mondeo I'd say Air Mass Meter, if that's a clue to anyone.

Thanks
