Hey, i jus joined and wanted to know if anyone knows how to get the most out of the 3S-GE engines in the 4th gen celica? I 've done a bit to it but want to get it faster, short of dropping a 3S-GTE in it. Tell me what you think

Hiya buddy and welcome to the club....

Modding the 3S-GE, do you want the good news or the bad news...

The Bad News...

UNless you've got a large budget there's not a lot you can really do, exhaust, induction etc are the basics which do help a little, a chip will give a little performance gain but make the car a lot smoother throughout the range...

Unless you really want to start playing with the throttle boddies or stroking the engine there's not to much else you can do...

The good news...

The 3S-GTE bolts straight on with a few changes, electrics, ecu, etc, etc...

Yeah i thought that might be the case i have done eshaust and induction and a little ignition ...

How much would a 3S-gte conversion run (currency would help, AUS$, US$)

not sure but we have a couple of users who I'm sure will troll across later and put a price on it as they have already done it to their cars.....

NOt celicas though but would give a ballpark figure.

You people must not have looked very far because since I've begun tuning my GT-S I've found any internals I would ever need for the 3S-GE along with any simple bolt on mods . The 3S-GE is a popular engine to build, maybe moreso in Japan, but there a variety of parts readily available here elsewhere as well for those willing to look for them. This engine can stand more extensive tuning than modern Toyota engines due to it's iron block, whereas the current aluminum ones would need heavy preparation. Even in high RPM the 3S-GE shows no main weak areas. Although sturdy the engine is still lightweight which makes it superior in many ways to the modern Toyota performance engines. If you are really going to pump it it will definitely require new connecting rods. There is also something very satisfying about the sound of naturally aspirated Toyota engines. If you prefer turbo than I can't argue with the 3S-GTE's superior power, but NA is just my preference.

Do you have any contact details (website URL or address). I'm always looking for new parts for my 3-sge
