What Evo? What Starlet? What mods ..

This it just a random post ..

What's the better colour, riding a bike or sausages?

The Starlet is a family runabout/shopping car .. the Evo is a sallon car with rally details .. If the evo had a 997cc engine swap and had one wheel, then maybe.

a 997cc engine... not a bad idea, would bring the insurance costs down a little.

You may all mock, but Im starting to be tempted to get rid of my paseo and build a starlet instead.

Drop the 5efhe into the starlet after a full rebuild with forged pistons/rods, bin all the crap like power steering/interior/stupid mounts/carbon can/blah, pollycarb windows. Then get the girl running some boost and nitrous. Just for the track and strip use, but has an MOT. Catch my drift?

I'm sure a well built starlet could and would eat a mildly tuned evo, why cant a starlet run 12's? Why?

the starlet would be an sr with turbo conversion with lots of mods like the forged pistins, cams gas flowed head etc.basicly a rebuild would also be stripped out,the evo would be a standard evo 6, you wouldnt need as much power as the evo as cause ud have the wieght advantage, the reason im askin is because im gonna be putting my starlet of the road to do the mods my friend said it would never be as qwick as the evo just looking for som back up on this it can be done, thanks for ur suggestions threepot

Reading on other forums, IIRC a Starlet running around 180 whp can give an ST205 a good run for its money, so in answer to your question, yes you probably would be able to keep up with a standard Evo 6, if you put enough money into the Starlet

Standing start the evo will kill you. Rolling start you stand a good chance with 200bhp territory

I've seen a Starlet happily keep up with an EVO in the wet, around the 'Quarry' corner of Castle Combe. Also seen them keep up with escort cosworths around other parts of the track..

real "who needs 4WD" moments :) just keep things light!!

The starlets, afaik were not standard. and even if they were, there are too many variables though, for a genuine "starlet is faster if it has X Y Z" - all depends on if the driver uses X Y Z properly.

So, none of this is exactly proof - the Evo driver might not have been pushing really hard or whatever.. the cossie was, for sure.. it was on a slight corner going onto a straight :)

The Starlet's I have seen @ castle combe have always been rapid.

why spend money on a car just to make it faster than a friend's car in a drag cause he said such and such...hmm

because thats what i'm into riko! i'm not there to beat anyone, just myself, and I do it for the fun.

4wd means alot of weight and a lot of transmisson loss, expensive things to put right.

Hell I got a cylinder full of medical grade nitrous oxide in my workshop needing a good home. It needs burning down the pod :)

So in other words - if you want to be as quick as an Evo - buy an Evo

Having a bit of your soul invested in a car makes all the difference.

Anyone with money can buy something, but only with thought and time can you own something custom. You only get the rewarding feelings if you do the work yourself, and other people of the same build understand your man/machine relationship.

The problem is, at the end of the day, he's still in an Evo, you are in a Starlet.
