I was just wondering the other day about how many celicas would have a FSH. Bearing in mind imports from when they were imported.

!Removed! have a 3 month service plan , just like a uk mot test AFAIK .

My gt4 came with some service history , i just change the oil myself now , and generally service other bits and bobs also , filters etc.

paying for a toyota service on a car worth less than 5k to me is pointless as its warrenty is void ,also selling a car over 10 years old makes little difference to its value. It may sell better yes , but worth more mmmm ? i'm not so sure.

Like GT4 BOOSTER i service mine myself. Keep all receipts + i`ve got a huge photo file. As stated it probably wouldn`t do much to enhance the value (Especially as it`s modified to some extent) but hopefully, if the time comes, it will help to sell.

Having said that i know of a 1984 Brabus 500 SEC Merc that just sold for £7.5K ONLY because it had a full MB dealer history.

I like to do as much as i can myself - oil/filters etc but i take it into my uncles garage every while to have a professional check it overB)

Would never ever ever (nnneevverrr) think about taking it to toyota

i do all the work on my car myself, the closest a toyota garage get to any part of my car is when they are handing over parts to be bought by me.

it only ever goes into a garage to be MOT'd and even at that it leaves me feeling uneasy someone else driving my car

Where is the option 'Mate'!!!!!!

Mines full Dealer History at the moment and could stay that way for all I care, work hard get paid loads! Thats my motto anyway. Obviously most bits can be done myself but I like that stamp! and so do buyers when I come to sell.

I do all my own work unless it's like a wheel balance. I prefer it that way. I want to be happy with the standard of work. And I remain totally familiar with the condition of the car. I actually enjoy working on it.

I am happy with my work and I with my salary.

I do not give a monkies about the value someone else will attach to a stamped book over my service history. I bought my car because I wanted it not because of how much I will get if and when I may sell it. Irrelevant for me. Its purely and simply the care taken with the car and the standard of workmanship. I just refurbed my brakes, bearings, cv joints etc and cleaned and painted everything. I stripped my callipers cleand painted and reassembled them too. I also waxoiled the car. I did this when I put the car off the road for the winter.

I do not know of any garage that would have taken the time to refurb the car they way I just did other than a specialist. A main dealer would not have fitted the uprated disks, never mind repainting hub back plates and the likes.

As im training to be a mechanic i try and do most alot of it at home, unless it requires hydraulic ramps.

But oil change, cam belt, timing ect i can do at home.

Toyota charge to much for what they do. Plus if the car has never had a dealer FSH its pointless starting one.

More history equals more money and so it does make perfect sense. Someone could say they have done this and that but without a service history I wont even go and look at a car! People who can afford to service a car at a maindealers can afford to repair and run the car! Cars may get cheaper but the parts dont!

Very true, but you can tell by looking at a car if its been looked after or not, regardless if its got service history with it or not. There is a Celi up the road from me, a bit younger than mine but it no where near as in good condition and he always takes his to Mr. T.

My Celica is in better conditon then my pug was and the pug had full Peugeot service history.

Also true but put my car next to a GT with no history(same spec, year) and I'd get more for it!

You got pictures of your car Kirst ie??????

i prefer to pay someone i trust to work on my car

and just because they work for toyota and put a stamp in a book

doesnt justify paying silly money

and just on a side note i work very hard for it i can easily afford it but i dont like throwing it away.

ME AND GOD HAVE GOT THE SAME TAX CODE :D :D :D :D

How much more though ??

Mate i think the point people are tryin to make is , our cars are worth very little maybe £2000 - whats the differnece gonna be between the two ? a few pounds ? I'd take the cleanest example regardless of service history.

Whereas if we were talking about a couple of year old 350z and one had full nissan service history you'd take that over the other because its a large investement .

 hell i bought my car on eBay it was shiny :lol::lol::blink:

Main dealer - but I think that's probably the norm for cars less than 3 yrs old anyway. If I was running an older car I'd probably shop around some trusted local garages.

Yeah I know its more important on certain cars, its only going to help me when I sell by making the infuriating process of watching tyre kickers shorter!! Its the one thing about cars I hate!

Spotipus - They did a good enough job of building it so I guess you could say I trust them to fix it! Let me just point out that I get my work done at honda by a mate anyway and I only have a full toyota history because I bought the car in January, after that it wont ;)

totally agree with you about the build quality :D i will give you one example of my loathing of main agents my local toyota agent also has mazda and renault.

i had a renault 19 16 valve before i saw the light :D

needed a new clutch the main agent wanted £850 + the cost of the clutch!!!!!!!!!!

got it done at a garage for £260 including genuine renault clutch pure and simple these people are con artists thats why i wont touch them with a barge pole.

Before I bought the car it had a full toyota history from the garage that originally supplied it, bar the last one which was a independant toyota specialist.

Since then i've done all the servicing work myself, I always been of the opinion that if I can do it myself whats the point of paying for someone else to do it. Espeically since I know I'll take more care of it, at the end of the day it's my car was as to a mechanic it's just another job...

Anything I can't do will go to either Ian at Toyauto Centre or the guys at Millway in Andover.

Plus all the money I save goes into the saving for mods fund

The car is already 11 years old and I plan on keeping it for quite some time to come, so not really worried about the couple of quid extra I "Might" get for having toyota history in xxx years time.

But you still bought a car with a full service history!! Thats my point! the fact of the matter is a car with a history is more valuable than an equal one without. Otherwise why have history with a car. I dont want to argue with any of you lot, all points made are valid as far as Im concerned.

We bought a car which had 171K on the clock. Full history up to 130 then it got sketchy. Fact was we got it cheap because of that and I figure after 130k it is better to go on the general condition as fact is you cannot be sure that the main dealer is better as most of their mechanics are on 5-10 pounds per hour and fresh out of college. How can they be better than an independant where the owner has a passion for the mark

£60+ per hour doesn't mean you get that value of work

Got mine done with millway in andover. Gold discount, nice bunch of people, and after chaging all the belts and what not, it sounded v. smooth indeed. They even cleaned it inside and out, not sure you even get that with a dealer. They had a few mr2's and GT4's (and a porche, and lee's lotus) in, they seem to have an excellent reputation for dealing with toyota's.

I did, but that's not why I bought it, I won't pay more for a car of this age with toyota service history than without, especially a gt4. You can tell more about how the cars been treated by knowing what to look for. Just because it's got lots of toyota stamps doesn't mean it's a better car, I've spoken to toyota garages that didn't even know what a GT4 was......

At the end of the day weather you change a filter yourself or pay for some grease monkey to do it doesn't really say weather you treat your car well or not, just shows that you A. won't know much about the car, and B. can't be bothered to take care of it yourself.....

I'd be much more interested in a well looked after home serviced car than one that was just so so and had a full toyota service history coz the owner was too busy to look after it and just booked it in at their nearest garage.

But that's just my 2p worth, feel free to disagree at the end of the day everyone makes their own decisions that why we have our own brains after all....
