3s-fe Engine - Getting More Power Out Of It

Personally, I like the look of the emanage ultimate - it's got loads of features, and some stuff that other piggybacks can't do. One of my friends had a few bad experiences with a unichip, which put me off it.

You might get 5% or so more power from an NA engine with one of these properly set up.

How much does it cost to set up one of those things though?

Yes, but for the 3S-FE engine this means only about 7bhp in gains?

Yes, probably. That's not the whole story though, there are probably gains across the rev range. But what more do you expect without changing anything mechanical on the engine?

And the only other mod that I can thing of for similar money that would offer more bang per buck is nitrous - and that's aimed at occasional use.

£470 fitted and mapped at Thor:

Looks like a good deal to me.

Dude this was said right at the start, you can't do much with what you got.

Panel Filter or Air indiction system with proper cold air feed and seperated from the hot air in the engine bay.

You could just ensure your air box has a cold air feed (1 - 5 bhp as a guide)

Service the car, use irridium plugs (1-2 bhp depending on what is already in it)

Better exhaust system, but the whole system not just a back box (8-15 bhp)

You can consider a de-cat option but that would mean changing the cat in and out for MOT's assuming you dont get tested between times (again 8 - 15 bhp) and is illegal

For better acceleration ensure you do not go over the total tyre size from the original 15" rims and what ever tyres. I have 18" alloys with 40 series tyres, thats a big wheel for my little 3s-fe to turn and expect it to do it quickly. If you ensure you remain under the ratio you may get better off the line speed but will compromise at top end.

Optimax fuel

Anything else costs serious money and to consider them may be better sellign and buying a turbo or gt4.

Or you could also try the chip for a fiver and letting us know.

Me I have to go slow so everyone can see me

Pah... nobody replied and it's gone now :(

It was a Turbo Kit for a 3S-FE:

"You are viewing a turbo kit professionally removed from a Toyota Celica during an engine swap. It works great, but we're not sure who built it.

This fits 2.0L and 2.2L 1990-1994 Toyota Celicas.

This kit included everything you see pictured, which is a ToyoMoto turbo manifold, Turbonetics deltagate wastegate, TurboXS blow-off valve, MSD 6BTM boost !Removed! ignition box with coil and tach adaptor, intercooler and piping, T3 Turbo, Toyota MAP sensor for turbo engines that replaces your current MAP sensor, K&N air filter, jet hot coated down pipe, oil feed line for the turbo, and all couplers and clamps. Nothing else needed to fit it on your car. The adjustable wastegate is currently set at 9 psi but I only recommend 6 psi on a stock engine."

Could be some nice bhp gains with one of those :)

Certainly go like stink for a couple of weeks. My mate fitted a turbo to a standar escort and blew it to bits after three weeks. Turbo's usually have a lower compression which the turbo makes up for. Its to do with the fuel air ratios that the turbo delivers. You would need to lower your compression, I am not sure of this can be done using a thicker head gasket.

Yeah you're right mate.

TBH I'm perfectly happy with the car I have, I love my Celica. Was just curious about tuning and I've learnt a lot from this thread so I'm happy.

Maybe it's not amazing when it comes to bhp, but my mechanic reckons that for economy and reliability these engines are bulletproof. Also, he said he'd prefer it to a 3SGE personally because when things need replacing in the 3SGE it can be very expensive, and more labour intensive, not only that but the 3SGE burns a fair bit more petrol  I think my mate burnt nearly 50 litres on a 260 mile trip in his Celica!!

Heyyyyy....

check this dudes:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Turbo-Kit-90-94-Toyo...1QQcmdZViewItem

So it IS out there :D :D :D

Might throw in a bid ... but will it be ok for my ST202??? And the seller has no feedback so it might be in dodgy condition.

I was going to suggest turbo/supercharging of this engine, but to do it from the ground up would be much more expensive than that kit.

I think the 3s-fe should be able to cope with 6 psi (maximum) of boost in standard form. BUT it would be essential to get the fueling spot on - and I don't see anything in that 'kit' that would sort the fueling.

Interesting kit. I wonder how much directions or specifications are with it. It was nto sold so you could approach him and ask for the minimum, If you'r in Glasgow it's not far to go and see him?

Could have been interested myself, seems a lot just to get that blow off valve!

try tcb (toyota celica breakers) in devon, they are highly recomended it seems from this forum. Do a search for tcb on forum to get number. They may be able to help or will find someone who can

edit: this link has number.

ColinC, are you still interested in fitting a turbo to your 3SFE engine - very easily done as all parts are easily available.

You will need a

-3SGTE rev2 exhaust manifold with heatsheild.

-Turbo CT26 from a ST185 along with all the oil & water lines.

-3SGTE decat pipe.

-If you wish to keep your std exhaust, mod it to fit the dacat.

-Piggy back ECU (E-mannage, AEM) to take care of fueling and ignition if you do not wish a piston meltdown.

-Rev2 MAP sensor

-Walbro fuelpump

-If you use an adjustable fuelpressure regulator, you can increase fuel pressure and use the std injectors.

-If you stay at the CT26 std actuator pressure of 0.7bar you won't even need a steel headgasket or to lower your compression.

the 5SFE which is a 2.2 version of the 3SFE has been turbod with huge success in America.

I've checked the old posts here on the 3S-FE engine, and a lot of people have written about how they could get extra power out of this lump by doing various things but I didn't see anyone coming back with definite BHP figures.

I'm looking to get about 170bhp from my Celica if possible, it's 94 SS1. Right now it's 138 I think...

So do any of the 3S-FE heads on here know if it's possible to get much more power out of the engine by mods? Could a turbo make a big difference, and what are the pros and cons of adding one (and the price?).

Really appreciate any tips from 3S-FE owners.

I turbo my 89 celica 3s-fe engine. I dont know what the heck everyone is talking about they dont know ****!!! 3s-fe is unique and turbo is awesome!! daily driving the car with no tune everything internal is OEM running great however I havent really floor the gas peddle to max alittle scared something bad might happen. Anyways dont listen to them negative feed backs its your engine do what you want because every engine is unique and very well engineered. If you are going to turbo your 3s-fe the cheapest ecu upgrade to be able to tune your car will be the GREDDY BLUE EMANAGE sell for about $200 alot cheaper then them STANDALONE ecu that runs about $400+. The 3s-gt could be better or not either way thats alot of money to do that swap and im sure you not planning to sell your ***** for it. If you turbo the car and you got some questions text me and ill help you out 5592704060 the name is KING.
